Although right now, with the Christmas holidays, Microsoft has paused all developments, the next big update to Windows 10 is finished. We already know that Microsoft does not like to give information about its updates until they reach users. And the truth is, due to the release of Windows 10X, the first 2021 update for the operating system was a bit up in the air, until now.
Windows 10X is Microsoft’s new operating system, a system designed for portable, low-power devices with a touch screen. A system, in other words, for tablets. After a long development, full of problems, this system will see the light of day next spring. And, to avoid overshadowing its launch, the company didn’t quite know what to do with the first 2021 update of its main Windows 10.

Now, thanks to a data sheet, we have been able to verify that Windows 10 21H1 is real. This update will arrive in spring 2021 to all users. Of course, contrary to what one might expect, it will be a relatively small update. Of course, we can see all the news that we have been able to see during its development thanks to the Insider program, such as the dark mode in the search engine. However, its main novelty will be, as Microsoft has confirmed, the arrival of support for TLS 1.3 .
What TLS 1.3 brings to Windows 10
Transportation Layer Security , TLS, is a security protocol used in the connections made by browsers and programs to connect to the Internet. Thanks to the new version 1.3 of this protocol we will be able to achieve extra security, at the same time as an improvement in performance and a reduction in latency in all these secure connections that are made from Windows 10.
TLS 1.3 will be enabled by default for all users who install the 21H1 operating system. However, for now, we don’t know much else either. The new version of the operating system remains a mystery to users. Although in theory it should already be in the RTM phase , Microsoft has changed the development model of the Insider builds so that the news that comes with each build is not known to which version they correspond. And this change will stay that way for the next 12 months, so we still have a lot of uncertainty about the second 2021 update for the system as well.
When will we see Windows 10 21H1
In the absence of official confirmations, it is estimated that the next system update could arrive in May 2021, the same as other times. However, if we are impatient, it is likely that the new build can be tested without problems starting in January or February of next year thanks to the Release Preview channel .
As soon as Microsoft releases this compilation of Windows within this channel we will be able to know what will be, officially, the news and characteristics of this version of the system. In the meantime, we may be in for a surprise.
Of course, we remember that there are programs, like Chrome, that already use TLS 1.3 independent of Windows. This novelty only affects Windows itself and the programs that take advantage of its API to connect to the Internet.
