One of the visual functions that we can have on the iPhone and iPad are the widgets, which show interesting information about the applications such as previews or aesthetic functionalities. In this article we will tell you everything you need to know about these widgets on the iPad and how to configure them.
Layout of the widgets in iPadOS
First of all, there is a fundamental difference in iPad widgets since iPadOS 14 . Apple decided to implement improvements in these elements in iOS 14 for the iPhone, even allowing them to have different sizes and move them around different parts of the screen. For this, developers were also urged to create new designs adapted to the circumstances and this was also transferred to the iPad. That is why two types of widgets currently coexist, some with a more classic aesthetic and a standard size and others with new designs and the possibility of having various sizes .

Which apps have widgets
It is really impossible to say exactly how many and which applications have widgets, since new developers are added every day or those they already have are updated. However, we can say that native Apple applications have widgets for iPad and we find the following:
- Apple Music
- Apple tv
- Files
- Shortcuts
- Drums
- Calendar
- Photos
- Podcast
- Reminders
- Watch
- Siri suggestions
- Weather
- Weather
- Use time
How to add widgets to iPad
As we said before, from iPadOS 14 onwards the widgets change and also the way to add them. You can do it in the following way:
- Swipe left to bring up the widget panel.
- Go down and click on “Edit”. *
- Press the “+” button in the upper left corner.
- Choose the widget you want to add, and you can also select its size. If you wish, you can also create a smart group in which several widgets will be added to a stack that you can see if you slide your finger over them.
- Click on “Add widget”.
- Once it appears on the screen you can move it up or down to place it where you want.
* This step can be replaced if you press and hold any of the widgets and then click on “Edit home screen”.

It should be noted that you can have two widgets at the top so that they are always visible, while the rest will remain hidden until you slide on them. If you later want to edit a widget that has been added, you can click on it for a few seconds and then on the option where you are allowed to “Edit widget”.
If you have an iPad with iPadOS 13 or earlier, you won’t be able to enjoy so many customization options, but you can also add them in the following way:
- Swipe left to bring up the widget panel.
- Click on “Customize”.
- You will see a list with the available widgets and you must click on the ‘+’ button to the left of them.
- Press the icon of the three stripes on the right to slide them and place them in the order you want.
- Click on “Ok”.

Can they be put in another part of the screen?
If you have an iPhone with iOS 14 and later versions, you can move the widgets on any screen, even making them go between the applications. However, this is not possible to do on iPads, the limit being on the left side of the screen. However, in this section, you can always have them visible if you wish. For this you can press and hold any widget, click on “Edit home screen” and then activate the ” Keep on home screen ” tab that appears above. Also if you go to Settings> Home screen and the Dock and activate “Keep viewing Today” you can have it.

Of course, these widgets will only be visible when you have the iPad horizontally , since if you use it vertically they will not appear unless you swipe to the left. It should also be noted that only the widgets that you have placed in the first two positions will be seen by default and that to see the rest you will have to scroll down.
Remove widgets from iPad
While it is possible to add them, it is also possible to remove widgets on iPadOS. In fact the process is really simple, since it is similar to what we find when putting them on the screen. If you have iPadOS 14 and later you must follow these steps:
- Swipe left to see the widget panel.
- Click on “Edit” at the bottom of the screen. *
- Click on the ‘-‘ icon that appears in the upper left corner of each widget.
- Now click on “Delete”.
* This step can be replaced if you press and hold any of the widgets and then click on “Edit home screen”.
In iPadOS 13 and earlier we do not find many differences either to remove widgets.
- Go to the screen on the left to see the widget panel.
- Click on “Customize”.
- Press the “-” button that appears to the left of each added widget.
- Click on “Ok”.
