During 2 years, 24 months or 730 days is the time that we have a guarantee on mobile phones. A time that may seem like a lot in some cases and very little for others, but it is the time stipulated by law in Spain and in the European Union for technological products, including smartphones protected by the brands that develop and manufacture them.
A time that will nevertheless change in 2022, when a new law comes into play that increases that time to 3 years, leaving those 2 years to which we are accustomed to oblivion. The variation in buyer protection comes in turn from a technological evolution, which becomes a reason for decision so that we have a guarantee time or another how we are going to know.

The keys to warranty time on phones
To begin to know the reasons that lead firms to currently give those two years of guarantee, we begin with the requirements established by the governments. With the intention of protecting users, that time is set on which manufacturers work to obtain and achieve minimums so that the product is not broken at the first change. For this reason, brands have to worry about taking care of the materials and testing their smartphones against bumps, failures and day-to-day situations.
Although it is not everything, because governments must also establish that minimum through a close relationship with the technological capacities of the moment , which will cause the aforementioned change in 2022 to modify them after 3 years. So far the technology could not easily exceed two years in most cases and it was there that the bar was set.

The resistance to the passage of time in the batteries, in the screens or in the materials was stipulated in those two years, but for some time that many of us have been able to verify that the smartphone can far exceed it. Of course, the need to renew products must be taken into account so that brands offer lower prices, although they need to be renewed every so often. This is also related to software, where brands cannot provide the latest and best updates for a long time due to the investment involved in development and the limitations of the hardware.
A host of reasons that affect the guarantee and that end up taking us to the time established in a general way.
Two years, although with “buts”
There are many aspects as we have been able to see that it ends up affecting and contribute to setting a specific guarantee time , although we must also know that this guarantee is not always as real as we would like. Since there are elements that suffer greater wear or that are affected in a more severe way by the passage of time, technology brands are allowed to reduce the warranty of batteries or chargers.

Of course, the guarantees do not include damages for which the user is guilty. If we fall into the water, receive a blow or we modify the software at our whim, we will be breaking the limits of the guarantee and we will not care if we have 2 or 3 years, because it will not be part of the protection they offer us.
Why do some brands give more guarantee?
Something that not only happens around smartphones, but we have been able to see it in mattresses, car brands or in washing machines. If the minimum established is two years, because a great brand would want to give something more, something that can be summarized in marketing and trust. By giving more time to face their competitors, companies are able to differentiate themselves from the rest, something they will only do if they are sure that the benefits will outweigh the costs.
