A few years ago, Apple introduced a MagSafe external battery, which while not a must-have for everyone, found its place among many users, including myself, who considered it an essential companion in their daily lives. However, it has come to our attention that since the unveiling of the iPhone 15, Apple has quietly removed this accessory from its official store, and it’s not slated to return in 2024.
The exact reasons for Apple discontinuing the MagSafe battery have not been officially disclosed, but we can make educated guesses, especially considering Apple’s approach to its products.

The MagSafe battery, while not Apple’s highest-selling accessory, received a favorable response from those who purchased it. However, Apple’s commitment to perfection and staying up-to-date with technology may have led to this decision.
The primary reason for the removal of the MagSafe battery appears to be its connector. Apple has shifted towards adopting USB-C as the standard connector for its devices, including iPhones, computers, and even AirPods. However, the MagSafe battery still relies on the Lightning connector, which no longer aligns with Apple’s new standard. Apple likely did not want to offer a product that could not be charged using the same cable as its latest devices.
It is believed that by the end of this year, coinciding with the release of the iPhone 16 and the widespread adoption of the USB-C standard, Apple may introduce an updated version of the MagSafe battery. This new iteration is expected to offer improvements in capacity and performance while featuring a USB-C connector from the factory.

The decision makes sense, as using two different cables to charge various devices can be confusing and impractical. For those with iPhone 14 or earlier models that support MagSafe, it’s still possible to purchase the accessory from various retailers, such as Amazon, ECI, and Fnac. However, due to dwindling stock, some sellers may take advantage of its scarcity and increase prices.
