WhatsApp Makes it Easier to Make Group Video Calls

WhatsApp seems to continue to be ready to announce news almost every day. Yesterday they announced that they were going to limit the forwarding of messages to a single chat to avoid the massive forwarding of hoaxes and other content to all the groups and chats that a person wants. Now, they make it easier to be in contact with our relatives.

This has been announced by the company, with a small change that we can already see in group chats in which there are four or fewer people. Until now, when we made a video call to members of a group, it was necessary to select them manually in the same way that happens in a group of more people.

However, that changes now, where the icon of groups of four or less people becomes the same as that of a call in a chat between two people. Thus, if there are three or four members in the group, the video call will start automatically when we press the button without having to manually select the members, as it continues to happen in groups of more people. In the following image we can see the difference between the two icons, where the one with the “+” symbol is the one with a group of more than four people, and in the other we can quickly jump to a call or video call.

Another more comfortable trick to start a video call is to hit the message button that appears at the bottom right in Android when we are inside the “Calls” tab, and search for ” New group call “, where we can start the call or video call with people they don’t have to be in the same group.

WhatsApp video calls are an excellent function to stay connected with close family members, but unfortunately these are limited to four participants, unlike what other alternatives to WhatsApp like Skype offer. This can have a positive side, since a mobile video call with more than four people can be chaotic; especially when there is more than one person who is not using headphones.

This is one of the measures that WhatsApp is introducing to make interaction during confinement more comfortable, together with functions that help limit the spread of hoaxes. The company has also published in the last few hours a series of images in which they establish recommendations to avoid being victims of scams, such as never sharing the activation code, activating two-step verification, or not installing apps or sharing personal information .
