In the coming months, television will have a new DTT channel. The creation of this channel is promoted by Marcos de Quinto , a former senior official at Coca-Cola and a former deputy by Ciudadanos . The financing of the project is progressing well, since they already have 150 million euros from different investors, including El Pozo . However, space in DTT is limited, and the gap used by the channel has to be freed by another.
The chain will be late. Although there was talk of dates around autumn ( October was even ventured as the launch month), the channel will arrive later than expected. The name of the channel is already decided, but they want to make sure that everything is going to work correctly before launching it.
The content production will be carried out by Grupo Zambudio . For the emissions they will have their own license , so it will not be for rent. At the moment the purchase of that license is not closed, but the negotiations are progressing well.
Disney, the candidate to disappear
Thus, since all the slots in DTT are assigned, there will be at least one channel that will disappear to make room for the new one from Marcos de Quinto. The question is which of them is going to sell its license to the new channel, since there are many channels that are currently well established. However, in the lower zone there are channels with very limited audiences. By the tail, we have BOM Cine, Real Madrid HD and Disney Channel.
Currently, Disney is in the process of closing its linear channels around the world, and those that broadcast in Spain may be affected by this decision. The platform is currently betting on bringing its entire audience to Disney +, and it would not be unusual for them to leave that gap for the new channel.
Others could also disappear
Other candidates are GOL and DMAX , belonging to Unidad Editorial, although it would be rare for either of them to leave. In the case of Net TV , which belongs to the Vocento group , its licenses are rented from both Disney and Paramount Network . Other licensed channels are KISS, TEN and Trece , where TEN is also in the queue in hearings. Therefore, it seems clear that it will be one of those channels that will leave DTT at some point this year, where the one with the greatest probability of this is the Disney Channel.
Among the contents of the new channel there will be news, direct, debates and last minute content, seeking to appeal more to the right-wing public, but without reaching the levels of networks such as El Toro TV or Trece . There will also be historical content, entertainment programs, fiction series.
There have been rumors that there would be active politicians involved in the channel, such as the general secretary of the PP, Teodoro García Egea, but ultimately there will be no direct relationship with the politicians.
Soon there will also be a new channel similar to that of Marcos de Quinto, which will be led by the far-right communicator and former director of Intereconomía Marcial Cuquerella, although he affirms that they will not compete in the political and economic approach of the channel.
