In the event that you are a client of O2, the secondary brand of Movistar, and that your router has stopped working or is having some kind of incident, we are going to see what it could be and how you could solve the problem
The O2 router that the company installs is the Home Gateway Unit (HGU) router . It is one of the most advanced routers on the market as it combines ONT, router and videobridge in a single device, in addition to having fewer cables and consuming less electricity. It’s included in all O2 home internet rates, so you won’t have to pay extra for it.

O2 Smart Wi-Fi Router
Basically, it is the Movistar router. In fact, if you arrive at O2 from Movistar and you already had a fiber installation and router, a new installation will not be necessary, nor will your current router change. If this is your case, one of the first reasons why your O2 router is not working may be a DNS conflict.
Movistar and O2 HGU router
To configure the DNS of O2 you will only have to access the wireless network settings of your device and in the DNS option enter the following information:
- 80.58.61.250
- 80.58.61.254
Your fiber Internet connection may stop working for different reasons. You should perform these quick checks and fixes.
- Make sure that the power cable is properly connected to the mains. It is recommended that it be directly connected to the plug instead of to a power strip. To make sure it’s not a hardware problem, plug the router into a different outlet and check it works.
- Check the fiber cable connections, both from the outlet and in the router itself. It is important that the cable is as straight as possible, as it is fragile and can break, affecting connectivity. If the cable is bent too much, this can cause the signal to not arrive correctly.
- Unplug the router and keep it off for a few seconds. Turn it back on and wait for the Internet, WiFi, WiFi+, and Phone lights to turn solid blue.
- If you’re connected via WiFi, check the signals your fiber router is emitting and make sure you’re connected to your home WiFi network.
- Update the WiFi channel. You can do it from the router configuration website, accessing with the password that appears under the router. Then, from Menu > WiFi or WiFi Plus you will see the channel that you have assigned.
- Avoid possible interference from other wireless equipment by placing the router as far away as possible from these devices.
- Change the location of the router. Ideally, it should be located in an elevated position, preventing it from being surrounded by metal objects or inside a piece of furniture such as drawers or cabinets.
Change the router location
If after these checks the problem persists, you must perform a factory reset to the router by pressing the “Reset” button on the back of the router with a pointed object and waiting 15 seconds.
