Vivo X50 Pro and Pro plus, the First Phone with an Integrated Gimbal

I live X50 Pro and Pro +, stay with these names because they surely occupy many headlines and it is not for less. The manufacturer promises a completely different experience so far thanks to its new stabilization system that mimics the operation of a smartphone gimbal or other types of cameras. But before talking about them, let’s get to know what the entire Vivo X50 series looks like.

Vivo is a major Chinese manufacturer that is little known outside of them. Now they intend to expand and that is why they will launch three new models internationally that belong to their Vivo X50 series.

This line of phones is made up of three models, two of them point to the mid-range hardware and the third level up with a latest from Qualcomm in terms of processors. Although better a brief summary of what each of them offers

  • 128/256 GB storage
  • 6.56 ”FHD + and 90 Hz AMOLED screen

  • Rear camera consisting of four sensors, the main 48 MP

X50 Pro Video

  • 256 GB storage
  • AMOLED 6.56 ”FHD + and 120 Hz display
  • 32 MP front camera
  • Rear camera consisting of four sensors, main 50 MP with integrated Gimbal

Each and every one of these phones is committed to a design that has been given attention to make it as attractive as possible. Logically that is the intention of the manufacturer, then there are the personal tastes of each user, who are the ones who will really assess whether it is true that they have achieved it or if they are one more proposal.

Still, at first glance they are striking, with the correct rear, but without great surprises. And with a well-used front where it is only the camera with holes in the panel that is most striking physically. The rest of the features offer what can and should be demanded of a terminal today, both in the mid and high range. But if they stand out for something, it is for the stabilization system introduced in the Pro and Pro + model.

This is the gimbal integrated by Vivo in their phones

Breaking molds is complicated today. But Vivo wants to try it by integrating a novel stabilization system in the main chamber. Because the theme of the 90 Hz and even 120 Hz panels is fine, but seeing that there are medium / low ranges that also include them, to stand out you have to bet on other aspects and which one better than the camera.

Vivo includes in its two Pro models a novel gimbal stabilization system. What’s more, according to them is exactly that, a two-axis gimbal integrated into the main camera of the device.

For us to understand each other, it would be like using a phone with an optical stabilization system plus the recent Zhiyun gimbal, the two-axis Smooth X with which to compensate for movements when recording freehand. Of course, all this compacted to occupy the 4.5 mm that this camera measures.

You may not see it as necessary, because you think that you use the video recording option little; but not only for video is it interesting. Having a two-axis stabilization system plus the optical stabilization system of the sensor itself would allow, in addition to very fluid video, the possibility of capturing better photos using night mode or in those darker scenes.

That could be a great value, improving the quality of the captures by using a long exposure when the light in the scene is very low. Thus eliminating things like unfocused photos or other types of image problems.

A terminal to test

Without a doubt, Vivo’s bets with its X50 Pro and X50 Pro + are striking and interesting , at least on paper. They will have to be tested to see if they really offer such benefits. Because in addition to stabilization, they must be accompanied by a good image processor. If so, and the rest of the components and details convince you, then you will have to be aware of them when they are officially released.

For now they are only announced for the Chinese brand, although it is expected to reach more markets. The prices of these new models have not yet been made official internationally, but taking into account the currency conversion, the Vivo X50 model would be around 440 euros, while the Pro model would rise to 542 euros. The Vivo X50 Pro + could increase its value about 100 euros or something more by carrying a more powerful processor.
