How to Increase the Security of an Android Mobile

It is true that Android integrates more and more security options. Applications are increasingly at bay when it comes to having access to our location or the camera and many terminals are already protected for two or three years in terms of security updates. Still, there is always something we can do to enhance the security of our smartphone.

We can entrust all security to the operating system, but if we know which key points to touch , we will make our smartphone an impregnable fortress. We are therefore going to see some tips to increase security and in this way, better protect our mobile from prying eyes or avoid possible attacks.

More secure passwords

From the unlocking key to all the access passwords you have on your mobile, it is imperative to have passwords that are secure. Sometimes it may not be easy to create a strong password. Luckily there are tools to help us in this task such as the “Secure Key” website.

Upon entering, we can choose secure passwords for letters, numbers or a combination of both , in the length we need. It goes without saying that it is not a good idea to use your date of birth, anniversary or the dog’s name as passwords.

Reduce screen lock time

The screen locks automatically after a few seconds. The best option to increase security is to reduce this time to the minimum possible that our smartphone allows (15 seconds better than 30). In this way, we make sure that no one can access our device in some mistake and have control of our unlocked mobile. This setting can be found in the screen and brightness options in the Settings menu.

Do you have antivirus?

There are mobiles that already integrate a serial antivirus , but if this is not your case, you can download one from Google Play, as long as it is from a recognized security firm such as ESET, AVG or Kaspersky. By doing so we will have the mobile protected against possible malicious apps, which sometimes sneak into official bazaars like Google Play.

Be careful with the connections

In the connections section there are several recommendations that we can follow to better protect our device. These security measures are equally applicable to our mobile, as to other connected devices such as a tablet.

  • Do not connect to open Wi-Fi : even in places known as coffee shops or airports, it is advisable to avoid these types of networks whenever possible.
  • Use VPN when browsing : many mobile browsers, such as Opera, integrate VPN to be able to browse without leaving a trace. We can activate it or download a VPN app from Google Play.
  • Deactivate all connections when not in use: remove Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC or even GPS when we are using them.
