Whenever a new phone from the Korean firm hits the market, we all hope that one of its features will land on its little brothers, the smartphones released a while before. Today is one of those days.
Samsung has released a new version of its Good Lock camera assistant app via the Galaxy Store. The latest update introduces the automatic lens change camera function for the flagship devices of the brand that we already found in its day in the recently released models.
What is that Good Look thing?
Samsung’s best phones running One UI support Good Lock, an app from the Korean giant that offers deeper customization options.
You can install various Good Lock modules to adjust different parts of the user interface, such as the navigation bar, action launcher, sound preferences and settings, and more. But the most interesting thing is that we can use it with the camera, since with the launch of One UI 5, based on Android 13, for the Galaxy S22 series, Samsung has launched another Good Lock module called Camera Assistant that allows you to adjust some important camera settings.
Now, after landing on last year’s models, it extends to other top-of-the-range brands launched years ago.
Phones compatible with automatic lens change
In addition to all Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S22, now auto lens switching support can also be enjoyed on Galaxy S21, S20, Note 20, Fold 4 and Fold 3 phones. It comes hand in hand with the last update of April 2023, so you have to wait to receive the update notice to be able to launch this tool. Camera Assistant will need to downgrade to version 1.1.01.0 and users will need to download an 8.31MB package to add this tool to their smartphones.
This Camera Assistant adds new options more related to mobile image processing to Samsung’s own app to take photos. So, if you’re not a big fan of Samsung’s HDR processing, you can disable Auto HDR using the new Good Lock module.
But it is not the only thing in which this intelligent tool from the brand helps you. New, in the form of an automatic lens change function, allows the camera to choose the best lens based on zoom, lighting and distance to the subject. In this way we make sure that we are always going to use the best camera of all those that are on our smartphone to get the perfect photo.
To enable it, you just have to open the Camera Assistant module through the Good Lock app, and then tap on the automatic lens change option to turn it on. And if you don’t like losing control of the screenshots you take, you can always follow the reverse path and thus be able to disable this One UI 5 tool.
