In the absence of a week for Microsoft to make the official announcement of its new operating system, and all the features that it will bring, we already have in our hands the first Insider image of Windows 11. This new operating system completely renews the appearance of Windows, giving the operating system a much more modern and updated touch. However, Microsoft is always at its own pace in these types of decisions, and little listens to the ideas of users. For this reason, there are functions that usually remain in the air, such as the possibility of making the taskbar transparent. Or maybe not?
The transparent taskbar: the feature everyone wants
The Windows taskbar is one of the most practical items on the desktop. From there we quickly access the windows or programs that we have open on the PC. While other operating systems (such as Linux) are committed to customizing this element, and macOS has directly changed it for a dock, the customization options that Windows offers us are basic.
In Windows 10, for example, we can activate the acrylic effect to this bar, which gives it a translucent touch . However, it is still an opaque taskbar that occupies the width of the desktop from corner to corner. As we have seen in Windows 11, this taskbar is still present, although in a more simplified way. In addition, there are new customization options, such as the ability to center the icons. But it is a bar that remains opaque.
This new operating system is still under development, and can have many bugs. However, not all failures are bad. We ourselves have been able to experience a glitch in this taskbar that gives it a new and original touch.
Having the transparent taskbar in Windows is something that users have been asking for for a long time. There are third-party programs that allow us to configure it in this way, as well as the odd trick to modify its degree of transparency. However, they all leave much to be desired.
This failure allows us to have a new concept of how it could, or better said, should be the appearance of Windows 10. Obviously, being a failure, there are elements that look bad (such as icons or the system date). But of course, with a few tweaks, this glitch should be a new Windows feature, an OS feature that users could turn on or off on demand.
Is Windows 11 too macOS?
There is less and less difference, aesthetically speaking, between Windows, macOS and Linux. One of the most outstanding features of macOS is the dock that, centered on the screen, groups the programs and windows that we have open.
GNOME 40 , one of the most popular Linux desktops, also relies on a macOS-like dock. A dock that, at the bottom, acts as a taskbar and that, of course, is also centered.
Now, the new Windows 11 taskbar mimics, again, the appearance of these two operating systems. It is clear that Microsoft is looking for the renewal and rejuvenation of its operating system. However, is it necessary to copy so much to these other operating systems?
