TikTok Will Allow Uploading Videos of Up to Three Minutes

One of the hallmarks of TikTok and in turn one of its keys to success has always been the length of its content, short videos that are quickly consumed one after the other. But now all that may change as the company seems to want to experiment with videos that are three times as long . A change that is not suitable, or yes.

TikTok triples the length of its videos

Matt Navarra, an expert in social media, has published a screenshot about a recent update carried out by TikTok that would affect both the mobile application and the desktop version of the platform. In it you can read that the company will begin to give early access to different users so that they can experiment with a new duration for the videos.

As you can read in the screenshot, TikTok now gives early access to certain users so that they can post video content with a duration of up to three minutes. That is, triple the maximum time that they have allowed so far. Or what is the same, being able to go from the sixty seconds allowed to three times longer videos.

Of course, with this movement the first thing that has emerged is criticism from the most “purists” of the network. And it is something totally understandable, because as we said at the beginning, one of the successes of TikTok and a hallmark has always been the short duration of their videos. After all, between that and its refined algorithm , users were “hooked” consuming videos one after the other quickly.

Allowing content to be published on TikTok for up to three minutes can be negative since many users would feel this reduction in “speed” when consuming content and would make the use of the platform similar to that of other proposals such as YouTube. And for that, for longer videos there is already YouTube, right?

The truth is that yes, it is difficult to imagine videos that exceed 60 seconds on TikTok. What’s more, videos that touch or reach that time right now have to be very dynamic to achieve the same impact as others that go more directly to what they really want to show. Although it could also be interesting in the face of greater creativity. The most imaginative TikTokers would have more time to tell what they want.

A negative change?

Increasing the length of your TikTok videos will not be an overnight thing. In other words, the company is allowing access to this option to a certain number of users and it may be that until it reaches the rest globally, a good time will pass. Or not, but everything will also depend on each user.

That is, being able to upload videos of up to 3 minutes does not mean that all TikTok videos will now have that duration. At the end of the day it will be just an additional option for those who need it. Depending on the results obtained, the use of said duration will be regulated organically. So it may be that within a while the 60-second limit will not be remembered and we will all think that being able to publish up to 180 seconds is normal.
