The Ubisoft thing looks really bad. If you remember, just a few days ago we had breakfast with the news that the French had made the decision to cancel several projects that were underway while their top manager, Ives Guillemot, messed with their own development studies. Now, there are new indications that Skull and Bones , one of his big bets, could be more on the wing than we imagined.
The pirates are in crisis
In the midst of the storm that has formed over everything that Ubisoft touches, there is a game where it seems that things have gone awry in the last few hours. Skull and Bones is one of the great bets of the French, destined to usher in a new era of success thanks to a game formula that we all know from their extraordinary Assassin’s Creed . You just have to remember those Black Flag or Rogue to imagine everything we can do on a pirate ship.
But the dimensions that the project must be acquiring, added to the company crisis, has left us with some really suspicious breadcrumbs that suggest that the launch date set for March 9, 2023 will never be met . There is no possibility that we can buy it for that date, in the same way that we could not do it in the previous one, set by Ubisoft for November 8, 2022.
And do you know why Skull and Bones is not going to see the light in just a month and a half? Well, because it can’t be bought. It has disappeared from the PlayStation store and the pre-order is no longer available to anyone who wants to get hold of it. What’s more, all those who came to do it before it was removed from the Sony store have seen how the refund with the full amount they had paid for the game some time ago reached their bank accounts. Don’t you find it strange?
Goodbye to Ubisoft’s pirate epic?
This detail that Skull and Bones has disappeared from console digital stores and that reservations have been fully returned only leaves us with an obvious scenario. The next announcement from Ubisoft will not be good for all the fans who are looking forward to its release. The French, almost certainly, are going to reveal a new date that could go to the last fiscal quarter of 2023 (from January to March 2024), even further or… a definitive cancellation as things are not seen as certain?
What’s more, given the gigantic world that they have developed for Skull and Bones and the depth of the game that they have reached, do not rule out that it is canceled and all the work ends up being integrated into some other project that has the prospect of succeeding with more guarantees. And what could it be? Well, obviously a new and bigger Assassin’s Creed . This is just conjecture, but knowing how the French development teams work, it is a hypothesis that we cannot rule out.
You have to take advantage of everything and right now the great bulwark that remains for Ubisoft is to link everything to the success of its most important saga.
