Some heat while charging is normal, not much
If you charge your mobile with a USB charger, it is normal that it produces some heat because it has to convert the alternating current energy from the plug in your house into direct current to be able to use it and this is a process that generates heat as it is an additional effort. If it is not much, it is not worrying, but it is the consequence that it is going as it should. In the first smartphones with fast charges above 50W, a build-up of heat was very common, although little by little over time this has been better controlled.
However, if you have noticed that it gets too hot or much hotter than normal , when until now the sensation of heat is different, or you even realize that it burns you when you touch it, then something is wrong right. It is the moment in which you could begin to ask yourself if there is a problem that you must solve.
It could be due to a problem with the connection or with the charger itself , so you should check both. If you do not do it or you keep trying to charge your mobile despite this problem, be careful because it could be dangerous.
If you see burn marks on the charger or cable, a smell of smoke or plastic, signs of fission, noises or any other sign that makes you think that something is wrong because it could even cause a short circuit or fire.
In the event that your mobile phone gets very hot, the problems can be serious and irreversible, to the point that its battery ends up swelling or it stops working for this reason, so be careful with that too.
What you should do
Try to charge it in a different place, try it in a different way, do a slow charge to verify that it is not due to problems with fast charging, that it is not wireless, use another cable or change the charger for one that works for you. Check if the charger is dirty or has any obstruction in its pins, check that the USB port or charging port of your phone is ok.
Check that you do it in a suitable place and conditions, without anything that could affect it. For example, connecting the mobile to the current while the sun shines directly on it or on a hot day in the middle of the street, may be the most basic and problematic causes.
If you need to change the charger, do it for a quality one , since these have a protection circuit that is much safer. In this way they manage to automatically shut down the connection if something goes wrong.
With this, it is more complicated for you to have problems, although it does not hurt to make sure just by touching it. If the temperature starts to worry you, you may have to contact the technical service so that they find the cause and you are not in danger.
