Today, the vast majority of mobile phones share a USB-C charger with the exception of Apple iPhones, although this will soon cease to be the case after the approval of European regulations. This unification was given to avoid having to buy a new charger every time you change your phone and we are looking forward to this measure also being applied to smart watches.
The big problem with a smartwatch is that they all use a different charge , that is, they generally use a magnet to start the process; however, the connector is different for everyone. This has created a problem that, in India, they are already beginning to address.

unique chargers for watches
If we look back a few months, we can see that the European Union has made the standardization of the USB Type-C port for smartphones official, which will force Apple to abandon the Lightning connector. However, this change does not affect smart watches , which is inconsistent, since each of them has a specific charger and contradicts the measure of the European Parliament, since it would be normal for this measure to also apply to this device class.
In fact, the Indian government would be meditating the decision to impose regulations to impose universal charging on smartwatches in order to use any adapter. The Secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs has indicated that upcoming wearables could soon be required to offer support for a standard charging solution.

Among the products mentioned by the secretary are both smart watches and wireless headphones. The problem is that this is merely a proposal , so it’s impossible to know if it will eventually go ahead to ensure a universal charging standard. The European Union has not mentioned this aspect, since its measure only affects mobile phones, tablets and cameras , so there is no mention of this wearable.
The truth is that it is quite contradictory because the countries that make up the Union are taking a series of measures to bet on environmentalism and reduce environmental damage . However, it seems that they have completely ignored this issue or that it is simply a chimera for them since they are not as widespread as telephones.
The numbers speak for themselves
More and more people are opting for a smartwatch to complement their terminal, whether it is to answer calls through the watch, check their training or know their physical condition instantly. There are many reasons why the number of consumers who have one of these wearables is increasing and this is demonstrated by their sales numbers.

Only in Spain at the national level, in 2020 more than 1.15 million of these devices were sold. Instead, globally , the watch market reached 102.5 million units sold . An outrageous figure with which we can get an approximate idea that there are many people who already have one, so it is extremely urgent to reach an agreement to facilitate the charging of smartwatches, especially those that use magnetic charging, since that the connectors could be identical on all of them.
