Although we have seen designs made up of several chips. What we have not seen so far are designs in which the same processor was broken up into several pieces instead of just one. Which is not new in the world of CPUs for tower PCs, as AMD has been doing it since the launch of its Zen 2-based Ryzen 3000.
Meteor Lake already boots Windows, Chrome and Linux
Well, the latest news about the Intel Core 14 has come to us from the company’s current boss, Pat Gelsinger, who in the first quarter results report for Intel shareholders and investors has dropped the following words:
Intel 4 Meteor Lake has managed to start Windows, Chrome and Linux. The speed with which the team has been able to achieve this milestone is a significant sign about the health of both Meteor Lake and our Intel 4 technology pipeline.
Meteor Lake is made up of different chips made with different size transistors. This is done to reduce costs, as much smaller chips are easier to manufacture and in greater volume. From what we know of the Intel Core 14, only one of its chips will be manufactured under the Intel 4 process. The rest will be manufactured under less advanced technologies and even the chip corresponding to the integrated graphics will be manufactured outside of Intel, specifically at TSMC.
In any case, the fact that Meteor Lake has already booted Windows, Chrome and Linux , means that its design is already finished . So it shouldn’t be long before Intel releases engineering samples to motherboard manufacturers. However, at the moment we do not know about the processor socket and other details . And it is that with months left for the launch of the thirteenth generation Intel Core, Intel is not in a hurry. Since before you have to promote and deploy the family prior to Meteor Lake. So don’t expect it before the second half of 2023.
