There is a button that the Google company has removed from our phones and surely you have not noticed, as it has happened to us. However, there will come a time when you want to use it and no matter how hard you try, you will not be able to find it.
It is something that has been happening since Android 12 on many devices and in Android 13 on practically all of them, so you may have had it until very recently on your current smartphone or even that you have not been able to access it from the first moment.
It is not a change that has been talked about much or that has been announced with great fanfare, so you may find yourself with the surprise now, or you may have tried to locate it on other occasions without success. Do you want to know what it is and what happens to it?
What is the button that has disappeared?
It is the GPS button , also called location, which you may no longer have on your mobile and you have not yet realized it. Or you may have noticed when you wanted to fix GPS problems by turning it off. Until now it was very easy to activate or deactivate the GPS in a single touch, but now this will not be possible quickly on many devices.
As we have said, it has been happening since Android 12, which has become a trend until its total disappearance, since there are more and more mobiles in which you will not find it.
What you can do if you do not find the button in the quick settings, is to continue browsing through these to try to add it, but we already anticipate that this method does not work, because you will not find it here either. Instead you should go directly to the mobile settings and look for the location section , where we can take control and disable the GPS.
We can do the same in each of the applications, entering their permissions. In addition, you can remove the location precisely, so that the app does not know exactly where you are. You will have to tap on ‘see all applications with this permission’ and manage them one by one.
Now you have many more options to manage the privacy of your mobile, including the location, however, trying to turn it off seems more complicated.
Why can’t I turn off location?
You may have tried it in order to save data or because you think you don’t need it, however, the truth is that now the services require the location even more and this creates the need to maintain it. By having location turned on in your phone’s settings, you can use location-based services to see nearby restaurants, commute predictions, better local search results, recover your lost or stolen phone, and much more.
In addition, this function of your mobile no longer consumes battery continuously as it has been happening until now, but only does so when we use an application that requires it, as is the case with Google Maps, Waze or any other.
It’s not worth having to constantly turn it on and off, so this possibility has been removed from Android’s quick settings.
On iPhones, you can’t easily turn off location either, since if you want to do it, you’ll have to go to the settings and configure it on a per-app basis or select if you want to do it only while using the app. And as we have seen, Android is going the same way.
