Although Qualcomm has already introduced the most powerful Android processor in its history, we are still waiting to see it integrated into the first commercial smartphone. The Snapdragon 888 aims high, and once again raises the battle between the most powerful Android phones of 2021 , and Apple‘s iPhone 12 with its A14 Bionic.
When the performance of iPhones is compared with the most powerful Android terminals, the brains of each terminal always clash. It is expected that the Xiaomi Mi 11 could be the first mobile on the market with Snapdragon 888, but many other terminals will follow in 2021. This will make comparisons with the iPhone 12 Pro and its A14 Bionic inevitable.

Snapdragon 888 improvements
To get the most out of its new processor, Qualcomm has released the benchmarks of the Snapdragon 888. Keep in mind that these are internal tests, where optimization is maximum, but that could vary when they can be performed on commercial street smartphones . In the aforementioned tests, carried out in programs such as Geekbench or AnTuTu, it seems that the promised new power of the Snapdragon 888 comes out, with improvements of 25% in the CPU and up to 35% in the GPU compared to last year’s Snapdragon 865 .
To perform these tests, Qualcomm has used a device with the following hardware configuration:
- SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G
- RAM: 12GB LPDDR5
- Storage: 512GB
- Display: 6.65-inch FHD + 120Hz (1080 × 2340)
- Battery: 3780mAh
Can it with the iPhone 12 Pro?
Both the Snapdragon 888 and Apple’s A14 are based on a 5nm process , however, Apple uses TSMC technology, while Qualcomm does the same with Samsung. The Snapdragon 888 throws a 10% faster speed in the general AnTuTu scores, while the single-core and multi-core performance in Geekbench, this superiority reaches 15%. However, in GFXBenchm the Apple Metal API with OpenGL format, proves to be 17% faster than the Snapdragon 888 5G.

Waiting for the first mobile with this processor
The jump between the new Snapdragon 888 and the previous generation is remarkable. It also seems to win the battle with the iPhone 12 Pro, but we can only know for sure when it can be compared with a real commercial smartphone, and not with the prototype that Qualcomm has in the laboratory. However, we are facing merely anecdotal comparisons in the real practice of daily use, where an iPhone 12 Pro and an Android smartphone with Snapdragon 888 will be able to move any game or multitask no matter how demanding it may be, without messing up.
