Send Emails without Spellings Errors by Activating the Gmail Autocorrect

We use the autocorrector on our mobile phones every day to ensure that there is no fault when we write messages on WhatsApp or Telegram, for example. But if you are worried about sending emails with errors that can put you in a hurry, you can activate the Gmail autocorrector that will help you identify misspellings or possible typos.

There are several options to activate the Gmail autocorrector: the possibility of checking the spelling before sending it or the possibility that it will be corrected automatically as you write with spelling or grammar suggestions. In this second case, the Gmail autocorrect is only available if you use the Google service at your work, in an educational center or in an organization. If not, you can correct the email when it is already written and with a specific button.

Correct misspelled words as you type

If you want the words to be underlined in case of error, you can go to the email settings to activate or deactivate grammar or spelling suggestions in your emails and always send them correctly.

  • Go to your Google account
  • Open your Gmail inbox
  • Go to the upper right corner of the screen
  • Click on the gear button
  • Open the “General” section
  • Look for the “AutoCorrect” option Mark “AutoCorrect activated”

Once in this section you can also activate or deactivate the predictive writing suggestions that will appear as you write an email or you can also activate or deactivate the grammar suggestions or spelling suggestions that will be displayed when you are writing an email from the account in which you have activated these options.

Gramatica Autocorrector

In the case of misplaced letters, Google will automatically correct the word when you type it without having to act to solve the problem. This happens if a specific letter is wrong but it is understood what word it is. If the word is very poorly written, it may not be corrected.

If what the Gmail autocorrect detects are grammatical failures, the word or phrase in question will be underlined in some color to indicate that there is a problem that you must correct before sending the email. You can click on the word for Google to offer you an alternative.

Check Spelling

As we explained, the previous function is not available for all Gmail users but you can review the entire document before sending it and correct the errors. Gmail will not correct you as you type and in real time but will serve as an editor once you have finished writing or at a specific time when you press the corresponding button. You can see what words are wrong and change them before sending the message to the recipient.

  • Open Gmail on your computer
  • Click on “Compose” to start an email
  • Write the message you want
  • Go to the lower right corner of the message
  • Click on the three vertically placed points
  • A drop-down menu will open with options
  • Click on “Check spelling”
  • Choose the language in which you want to correct the email
