Samsung has had a year full of great launches and significant improvements to its high-end smartphones. The Galaxy S20 from the beginning of the year were joined more recently by the Note 20, and the new foldable Galaxy Z Fold2. It is precisely this last terminal that has undergone notable improvements, at the hardware and design level. However, Samsung is already thinking about the third version, which could come with a more spectacular novelty.

The Galaxy Z Fold was one of the first folding smartphones on the market, launched alongside the Huawei Mate X and the more unknown Royole Flexpai. One of the great improvements that Samsung put on the table for the next model, was the integration of a top hinge , less visible and of course more durable. This is something that has been achieved with the new Galaxy Z Fold2, revealing itself as a very resistant terminal, as various resistance tests have shown.
A hinge that lights up
Now, the LetsGoDigital media has had access to a new patent filed by Samsung, which shows the design of a possible new Galaxy Z Fold, which could well be part of the third generation. The key element reflected in the patent, filed with the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) and approved on October 1, 2020, refers to a luminous hinge.

Samsung is thinking of an evolution of the hidden hinge of the Z Fold2, since in a future model it could also serve as a notification LED. This is how it appears outlined in the sketches that accompany the record. The hinge will be able to emit light in various colors according to the description: red, blue, green and white. This LED on the hinge will be used to notify the user about incoming calls, messages or notifications from different applications.

Will it arrive on the Z Fold3?
The idea also serves so that the user can receive this information with the help of the LED, since there are circumstances, for example by the mobile folded upside down or inside a bag, in which this indicator can be of great help. We are facing an interesting clue about the possible evolution of Samsung’s Z Fold family. However, given that the last member has just hit the market, we have to be clear that a Galaxy Z Fold3 should not see the light until at least the second half of 2021 . This means that Samsung could change its mind and never materialize this system, no matter how much sense it may make, since we do not know what technical challenges it may face.
