Samsung presented exactly one year ago the first folding mobile on the market, a Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 that shortly after would be relaunched in China with some interesting addition. This year, when we all expected a Fold 2, the brand is removed from the sleeve this Samsung Galaxy Z Flip that maintains a flexible screen but within a radically different folding design.
We are facing a shell-shaped phone that folds over itself as is the case with the Motorola Razr. Although it has been presented with the different models of Samsung Galaxy S20, little or nothing is left of them in this folding mobile beyond the presence of Android 10 with operating system and some pieces of software. And is that this new and original phone is intended for a very different audience, more in touch with social networks and the world “influencer”

The screen, its great attraction
As the headline advances, on the smartphone we have two screens. When the smartphone is closed we can check the notifications, messages, calls and alerts of apps on a small display of a size slightly larger than the inch that is located in the back cover and that serves to find out what happens in the folding mobile without Need to open it.
But it is precisely when we open it when we can enjoy the 6.7 inch flexible screen in all its splendor. It folds over a central hinge and allows half the space to be occupied when closed. On a technical level it is a FullHD + Dynamic AMOLED display with a hole in the Infinity-O type screen, such as the Galaxy S20. Its resolution 2636 x 1080 (with more pixels along the normal) ends up generating a density of 415 dpi.
In order to keep the integrity of this panel safe, the brand has included Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection to prevent it from being damaged by external attacks.
The Galaxy Z Flip can remain open at several different angles, such as a laptop screen. The Hideaway hinge system also integrates Samsung’s new scanning technology, which uses nylon fibers designed with micro-height cutting technology to repel dirt and dust.
In addition the hardware is optimized for the phone. For example, the selfie camera houses the controls in the middle of the lower screen while the upper one shows the entire focused image.
A hardware at the height
Inside the device we have somewhat more limited specifications than the views on the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, S20 Plus and S20 standard. Instead of an Exynos chipset we have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+, well above the CPUs present in any other folding mobile on the market. To this we add the Adreno 640 GPU, one of the most powerful of the moment.
This has been one of the most criticized aspects of a folding similar to this Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, the Motorola Razr, and therefore Samsung has not wanted the phone to go, precisely, lacking power. It is also complemented with 8 GB of RAM and an internal memory of 256 GB.
Working with Android 10, keeping the smartphone on for more than 24 hours is the responsibility of its 3,300 mAh battery that has a 15W fast charging technology. It can also be charged without the need for cable.
With the aim of lowering its sale price, the cameras present in the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip are a step below compared to what is seen in the Samsung Galaxy S20, but it is not that the brand wants to highlight the phone for its photographic component.
Even with everything, it is one of the best cameras that we will find in a folding smartphone , because the brand is committed to mounting a double 12 MP sensor with f / 1.8 followed by a wide angle of 12 MP with f / 2.2 that is capable of Record video in 4K. It is also powered by the AI provided by the Qualcomm processor.
As regards the front jacket, we can only use it when the mobile is deployed, something logical on the other hand, and is housed in a hole located in the center of the upper part of the screen. There we found a 10 MP sensor with f / 2.4 aperture that is also capable of recording video in 4K.
Price and availability
The smartphone can be purchased in black and purple (to which you have to add a golden tone in some markets), but there are different special editions on the way with different cases and accessories.
