The 5G ban in the mid-range has been open for a long time . Samsung has been one of the companies that has best accompanied this democratization. It is precisely the Galaxy A family of the Koreans, which offers the best options for users who want to take advantage of the new 5G connectivity, and not reach the price levels of the large high-end. For that reason, we wanted to see the technical differences between two of the devices that flag this seal with are the Galaxy A51 5G and the Galaxy A42 5G.
It is not difficult at all to deduce that climbing one notch in number, within the Galaxy A family, is synonymous with finding better technical performance. But for this reason, we want to see if they differ both in terms of performance and price, having 5G as a common denominator and objective.
Screen, weight and thickness
The first thing that strikes us is a very similar screen size, since both terminals sport an AMOLED panel , being 6.5 inches in the Galaxy A51 5G and 6.6 inches in the A42 5G . However, the older brother sports a FullHD + resolution compared to the HD + resolution of the A42 5G. There is also a notable aesthetic difference, and that is that the A51 5G sports a hole in the front of the screen to house the selfie sensor, something that the A42 5G continues to do through a drop-shaped notch.
There is hardly any difference in weight and thickness, with the A51 5G weighing 187 grams and 8.7 millimeters, compared to its brother’s 8.6 millimeters and 193 grams. However, it must be taken into account that the top model is protected by Gorilla Glass, something that is not indicated on the A42 5G.
Exynos vs. Snapdragon
If we look at the brains of both teams, we see two different bets. The Galaxy A51 5G has an Exynos 980 8nm processor of the house, which is accompanied by 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. In the Galaxy A42 5G we find a Snapdragon 750. Both chips provide 5G connectivity to these terminals, but are also responsible for their performance.
In this sense, we would expect more difference in the superior model, but the truth is that if we take into account a performance program such as AnTuTu, both remain at the border of 330,000 points. Both even have the UFS 2.1 standard for reading and writing files. In addition, and as good news for many, both allow you to expand your internal memory through microSD cards.
Four cameras with 48 MP
Similar bets, the ones we find when we turn around the two terminals. The Galaxy A51 5G has four cameras with cameras with a 48 megapixel main sensor, a 12 megapixel ultra wide angle sensor, and macro and depth sensors of 5 megapixels each. Its little brother sports a 48 megapixel main sensor, reducing the ultra-wide sensor to 8 megapixels, but with the same macro and depth sensors of 5 megapixels each.
There is a slight difference between the selfie sensor of both, since the one housed in the hole of the A51 5G screen reaches 32 megapixels, compared to the 20 megapixel sensor, housed in the notch of the A42 5G. There is not too much difference in video capabilities either, since both can record in 4K resolution at 30fps. However, the selfie sensor of the A51 5G does allow you to capture video in 4K, while the front sensor of the A41 5G is satisfied with doing it in FullHD.
Connections, battery and OS
As for the connections, it is not necessary to remember that both can connect to 5G networks, in addition to having Bluetooth 5, NFC and USB-C input. Both also have a fingerprint sensor integrated into the screen and move with Samsung’s One UI layer based, for the moment, on Android 10. In the battery section, the advantage is now for the most “modest” since the A41 5G ups the ante to 5,000 mAh, compared to the A51 5G’s 4,500 mAh. However, both have 15W fast charging technology.
And their prices?
Given the technical differences, if our goal is to start being connected to 5G networks without spending more than necessary, the Galaxy A42 5G could be a better option at this time. We find it in Amaozn at a price of 279 euros. For its part, the Galaxy A51 5G can be purchased for about 350 euros . It is a difference of more than 70 euros that, given the objective of looking for this type of device, tips the balance towards the more “modest” model.
