Apart from launching its most powerful terminals such as the Galaxy S20 series, the renewal of the Galaxy A family is vital for Samsung in 2020. The Korean company has hit the key that allows it to contain Chinese firms, with a good string of terminals with good quality / price ratio. This has allowed Samsung to position some Galaxy A as the best sellers in our country last year.
The Samsung Galaxy A50 has already undergone an improvement with the Samsung Galaxy A50s, but now we face the natural successor, which is already on sale in our country and is known as Samsung Galaxy A51 . There are several improvements in almost all key aspects, although others remain immutable.
Screen and dimensions
The first thing we see is that the screen has barely grown, being 6.5 inches in the Galaxy A51 and 6.4 in the A50 . What we do notice is that in its design, Samsung has decided to adopt a front hole in the screen to accommodate the selfie sensor, just as we have seen in the Galaxy Note 10 and the Galaxy S20. For its part, last year’s Galaxy A50 sports a drop-shaped notch. Both terminals reach a FullHD + resolution, but the aspect ratio also varies, being 20: 9 in the A51 and 19.5: 9 in the Galaxy A50.
As for the weight and dimensions, it is true that the Galaxy A51 increases too much, but Samsung has failed to maintain the weight and thickness of the model of the previous year. The A51 is 7.9 millimeters thick with 172 grams in weight, compared to 7.7 millimeters and 166 grams of the A50.
Similar performance
When raising the hood we see an improvement, which although it is not huge, it obeys a classic evolution and we could not wait less. The Galaxy A51 integrates the Exynos 9611 brand of the house, while the Galaxy A50 mounts the Exynos 9610 of the previous generation. However, the two processors offer very similar performance, and more if we take into account that the two have 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory, which can be expanded up to 512 GB via microSD cards.
Growing cameras
There are also differences in the cameras section. The Galaxy A51 already sports a quad configuration, with 48 megapixel main sensor, and wide angle, macro and depth sensors. Its arrangement is the L in a rectangular rear module, where an LED flash is also integrated. In the Galaxy A50 we see a triple configuration where the main sensor is 25 megapixels. It has also increased the selfie sensor, which is 32 megapixels in the new A51 and 25 megapixels in the Galaxy A50.
Connections and battery
We find the main wireless connections such as Bluetooth 5, NFC and even fingerprint sensor on the screen. Nor is the increasingly precious 3.5mm headphone jack that is increasingly difficult to find in the high range. Something that does not change is the battery, since the two terminals have 4,000 mAh of gasoline that are compatible with the 15W fast charge.
The two terminals work with Samsung’s OneUI layer. The advantage of the Galaxy A51 is that it is native Android 10, so it has secured operating system updates at least until Android 12. The Galaxy A50 arrived with Android 9 Pie and although it has already been updated to Android 10, that of Android 11 It should be your latest version of the Google operating system if we consider the classic Samsung policies.
The Samsung Galaxy A51 can now be purchased at Amazon for about 307 euros, while the Galaxy A50 is available for about 238 euros. We are facing a difference of almost 70 euros between both devices . It is true that we have found some technical differences, lodges of an evolution, between a mobile and another. However, if our goal is maximum savings, for this price difference the Galaxy A50 is still a great option, since its older brother is not so far in the technical distance.
