Rumors about Mac: This Would Be the Next Models of 2021

2020, despite the logistical complexity it had to face, was a year for Apple loaded with launches and it seems that in 2021 they will not be left behind. Although the iPhone are always devices that monopolize all the lights, the Macs promise to give a lot of war after the first versions with Apple’s own processors launched a few months ago. The latest reports point to a long-awaited redesign of the desktop model and new versions of the iMac Pro. We cover it all in this article.

The iMac will look a lot like the Pro Display XDR

In 2019, a new Mac Pro was presented accompanied by a new screen that, despite not being included, is offered during the purchase of this equipment. Known as Pro Display XDR, this panel not only has excellent quality in its materials and its visual experience, but also offers a very tight design that could now be released on iMac. Apple desktops have been offering a similar design in each generation for more than a decade, so this change is highly anticipated.

Rumors about Mac

Mark Gurman, an analyst at Bloomberg, is the one who has revealed this and the rest of the information that we analyze in this article. In his report he does not describe the new iMac with a design exactly the same as the Pro Display XDR, but he does say that it will be very similar and that again we will find two sizes that will replace the current 21.5 and 27-inch models. It is expected that we barely have frames on the front and that the back loses that curvature so characteristic of these models, perhaps having a bit more thickness than the already mentioned ‘Pro’ screen. We understand that this design optimization could allow us to see 24 and 30-inch models, for example, if we consider that in terms of size they were similar to the current models.

Of course, these Macs would come equipped with Apple chips. We do not know if it will be the already known M1, since in Gurman’s reports it is said that they will have more cores and an improvement in graphics performance. Perhaps this comes in an improved version of the aforementioned M1 or even a hypothetical M2. It occurs to us that Apple can also give the possibility to choose between several versions as now happens with Intel chips. What is clear is that precisely the processors of that company will no longer have a place in these new Apple computers.

iMac Pro and iMac Pro ‘mini’ with Apple Silicon

The current most powerful computer of the Californian brand is the Mac Pro, which can be configured with premium range components reaching exorbitant figures in the price that even exceed 60,000 euros. Therefore it is understandable that the company is going with lead feet with these computers and although at first we could have thought that the company will finalize the Intel-Apple Silicon transition, Gurman has stated that this year we will already see a version of this computer with ARMs designed by the brand itself. If even the performance of a MacBook Air with M1 is surprising, we do not even want to imagine what Apple prepares for this professional version.

The surprising thing at the end of this new information comes with a small version of the Mac Pro . It is not something new, since at the end of last year information had already emerged that spoke of a more compact computer and with a focus also on the professional public. In terms of design, Gurman says that this computer would look a lot like the classic PowerMac G4 Cube that was released 21 years ago now.

It should be remembered that last week new information also came out about new MacBook Pro with improved chips, new design and even the return of MagSafe technology to laptops. Therefore, everything indicates that, as we said at the beginning, it will be a year of many surprises in the computers of the Californian brand.
