Now that we do everything through the Internet, it is not surprising that you want to carry all your documents by hand on your mobile phone. In that case, there are a series of steps that we can follow to carry the driving license on the mobile through the DGT app . We can also manage the renewal of the driving license from home through the Internet or access all our fines.
From the smartphone we can carry out practically all the procedures of our day to day and it also happens in the case of carrying our driving license as long as we have a way to identify ourselves in the MI DGT application . In the next paragraphs we explain how to do it, what advantages it has, etc.
How to carry the card on the mobile phone
We can carry the card on the mobile phone with the DGT application. A procedure that has been available since 2020 with the new application of the General Directorate of Traffic. The first thing we must do is have the application and install it on our smartphone, choosing the language. Of course, we need to have an official driver’s license if we want to take it with us on our mobile.
Once we have the application we must access and identify ourselves. We can use the DNIe or electronic certificate, use the Cl@ve PIN, or the permanent Cl@ve . Once we do, we are inside the app and we will see our data and points.
From here we can go to “see my license” and we will see all the details related to our driving license : we will see our name, the points that we have or have left on the license, the vehicles that we have in our name. And the option to access the driving license from the mobile phone with all the information that we find in the classic physical version: our photo, name, date of birth, validity date, DNI and driving license that we have.
At the bottom we can touch a QR code icon where the QR will appear in large. This code can help us to identify ourselves in case of giving it to an agent, for example, or if we need it in any circumstance. Not only does it allow us to go out without a license or “save us” if we have left it at home, but it also allows access to the car’s technical sheet in case we need to go to the mechanic or fix any issue with the car.
Of course, you must bear in mind that the application does not allow you to take screenshots, so to see the card we must always follow these steps and we will not be able to take an image in the gallery. We do not need access with the digital certificate once we have entered the first time, but we do have to enter the phone’s PIN code or fingerprint to prevent someone from accessing our data.
There are other advantages of using the app, and that is that we can not only use it to carry our driving license on our mobile, but it also allows us to see the different sanctions or fines that we have pending payment, for example, or we can even buy the different rates that are pending updating. Naturally, we cannot renew the driver’s license from the DGT application, but below we explain how we can do it and what to take into account.
Renew the card: How to apply and where
We cannot renew the card online, of course. We have to go to some specialized center where they can prove that we see correctly, that we hear well and that we are still able to have a driving license for a few more years. We can renew it from an Authorized Driver Recognition Center in person or from a Traffic Headquarters or Office where you will have to request an appointment.
It is advisable that you go to the DGT website and go to the “ Driver Recognition Centers ” section where you can see all the authorized centers for renewing your driving license. You choose the province in which you are and the closest authorized centers will appear. You simply have to contact the center in particular and make an appointment. From there they will be in charge of doing all the paperwork for the renewal.
Or we can request an appointment online at a Traffic Headquarters. We go to the DGT online link and tap on “ Previous appointment request ”, where we must fill in all the data: office where you want to request the appointment and type of procedure.
Games and tests to prepare the psychotechnical
When renewing the card we have to pass a series of tests, regardless of where you do it. Tests that show that we hear well, that we see well, that we are perfectly capable of driving. It is not complex to renew the driver’s license and we can do it from any approved establishment, but we can rehearse if we are worried about not knowing how to pass the test. If you know how to drive, you won’t have any problem passing it, but there may be people who get nervous before going or are not clear on how to do it. In this case, we can practice through the Internet and through games available on the Internet that simulate the psychotechnical test.
There are many applications that simulate the game and that we can download for free. As a Psychotechnical Driving Test where we can play the different usual games that we will find in specialized clinics and that usually consist of keeping a ball inside the road.
And others that simulate the entire test with visual acuity, color or audiometric tests such as the free Psychotechnical application for Android and with dozens of different tests that you can take from your mobile phone.
There are also specific tests and applications that we must pass in order to renew the driver’s license: vision and hearing tests. If you have vision or hearing problems, it is recommended that you go to a specialist doctor before going to renew your card.
