Using the Google Chrome cleaner
Google Chrome has a built-in cleaner designed to detect and remove any malicious extensions or software that has been incorporated into the browser. To access it simply type "chrome://settings/cleanup" in your browser bar and press enter.
After that you will reach a new page where Chrome will inform you about its service to find and remove any harmful items from your browser. To start the analysis, press the blue “Search” button and wait for Chrome to analyze all the extensions you have installed in the browser one by one. In addition, the program will also perform a basic analysis of your operating system for malware.
Once the analysis is finished, a message will appear informing you of the results. If Chrome has found suspicious or harmful items, it will show you a list with all of them in addition to an option to remove them. To do this you simply press the blue "Delete" button. After that, the browser will be completely clean and will request a restart and return to its default values.
Using antivirus software
A really effective method to get rid of any malicious Chrome extension and clean your computer is to perform a scan with antivirus software. This one works really well and is capable of detecting any malicious code that comes from your browser, computer and even emails. And it's free!
If Avast does not convince you or if you are looking for a much lighter alternative to install on your computer, we recommend that you take a look at Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition. This one is not only effective but it has hardly any impact on the performance of your PC.
Using a program to remove malware
If you already have an antivirus installed and it is unable to detect malicious extensions of the Google Chrome browser, we recommend that you choose to install software specifically developed to deal with malware. These are very effective in detecting and eliminating any infection from your browser or JavaScript security holes.
Among the free options that we like the most, we recommend the installation of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. This is completely free and although it does not offer real-time protection, it is perfect to eliminate any infection that is already on your computer.
If Malwarebytes does not convince you, you can also opt for Spybot Search & Destroy. This is very efficient, completely free and is capable of detecting both malware, spyware as well as the vast majority of malicious programs that infect a browser.
