As you already know if you are in this article, recently Google has presented the highly anticipated new version of its Chromecast. On this occasion, it turns any screen into a Smart TV, with the possibility of installing applications on it. In addition, this also includes a remote control from which we can invoke the assistant or quickly start the YouTube and Netflix apps. But what if you want to access other applications with these buttons? Today we explain how to reassign the buttons on the remote of the new Chromecast to perform the action you want.
Remap buttons of the new Chromecast: native method
As we were saying, in this new fairly minimalist controller, a couple of buttons are included that give us the possibility to start YouTube and Netflix services quickly . If you want to use them to access other services, we can do a native reset.
In this case, with the Netflix option we will not be able to make any changes by default. However, the YouTube button allows us to vary between the different services that this platform has: YouTube Kids or YouTube Music, for example.
To make this variation between services, you just have to press and hold the “YouTube” button for a few seconds until an interface appears that asks you to select your favorite YouTube application. Once chosen, we will not have to do anything else, as soon as we press the button, our choice will automatically open.
Alternative method to remap buttons on Chromecast
On the other hand, if you want to change the services or actions performed by any of the buttons on the remote controller of this device, you can do so using a third-party app.
There are different alternatives but the one that usually works best in these cases is Button Mapper . In this case, it is an application that is only available for Android devices.
To carry out this simple process, you will only have to follow the following steps:
- From the new Google Chromecast, access the Play Store application store. Once here, click on the search engine and type the name of Button Mapper.
- Once you locate it, enter it and click on “Install” so that it is added to the rest of the applications downloaded to your Google device.
- Enter it from the start menu and give it the accessibility permissions that it will request. This will allow the application to have access to modify the actions carried out with the controller.
- Now you just have to click on the corresponding button that you want to modify. In this case, it is an “unusual” button, therefore, you must access the “Add buttons” option. Here, if you click on “+ Add buttons” the remapping mode will be activated. Click on the button you want to modify, which, in this case, is Netflix. This application will automatically recognize it and add it to the list. Access it now.
- After entering the settings of the selected button, you will have to activate the “Customize” option so that it gives you the possibility of making modifications.
- Once this process is done, now you can select the action you want . From activating actions such as screenshot or backspace, to selecting other applications such as Disney +. Once chosen, the change process is complete.
Now, after pressing the Netflix button on the controller of your new Chromecast, your choice will automatically open, which, in our case, has been the Disney platform. This app allows us to make the changes we want but, in some cases, it will ask us to purchase the Pro version, something that you must take into account.
