It is not the first time that we anticipate the arrival of the Xiaomi operating system to its economic model last year, but it is now when we can assure that the mobile you have in your hand is the one that is ready to receive MIUI 12, thanks to the release of the global version of the software.
The Redmi 8, like most of the manufacturer’s cheap smartphones, was one of the best-selling phones worldwide during the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020. At that time MIUI 10 was the operating system that we could use to control all aspects of the mobile but the later version, MIUI 11, did not take too long to reach users.
In fact, earlier this year, Xiaomi released the Android 10 update for the Redmi 8 , but keeping MIU I11 as a customization layer. Now, a long time later, MIUI 12 finally appears on the entry-level smartphone of the Chinese firm.
As we have advanced at the beginning of these lines, it is the global variant of this device that has begun to receive the MIUI 12 update outside of China. Although it is an entry-level range, and unlike the strategy followed by most OEMs, Xiaomi offers two MIUI updates and a single Android update for these devices. Hence, the firm has now started seeding MIUI 12 as the second and last system update for the inexpensive Redmi 8.
This revision of the manufacturer’s operating system comes with the build number V12.0.1.0.QCNMIXM and is in ‘Stable Beta’ format, which means it is only available to select users. If these early users don’t run into major issues, the availability of this build will be rolled out to more users in the coming weeks.

If you want to be among the first to try MIUI 12 on the firm’s smartphone, the first thing you will have to do is access the official website of the Xiaomi beta program , from which it will direct us to the access page which we will have to complete with the username and password of the Mi account . It must be the same that we are using in our Xiaomi phones, in this way we can identify ourselves as the owner and there will be no compatibility problems.
If there is a software version ready to test on your phone, a message will appear alerting you if you are among those chosen to download and install it.
