Reddit User Sued for Sharing Links to Series

Reddit is one of the largest forums on the Internet , with thousands of communities dedicated to specific topics. Among them, inevitably, communities related to pircy end up appearing, where some even go so far as to directly offer links to protected content. Now, one of the users who shared the most in one of them is facing a lawsuit.

This user, named Cherzo (later Cherzo1), was dedicated to sharing series and Sky TV shows on Reddit. This user was the moderator of three subreddits called r / UKTVLAND, r / notapanelshow, and r / UKPanelShowsOnly , which as we can see from their name, were specialized in British content. In total, the three had 51,000 subscribers, in addition to the 95,000 subscribers he had on YouTube.

Reddit User Sued for Sharing Links to Series

Three subreddits full of series and shows

On subreddits, users asked what content they wanted to see, and Cherzo uploaded Google Drive links to the content. Among them were series such as Gangs of London, Cop Squad, Thronecast, The Russell Howard Hour, Portrait Artist of The Year, and A League of Their Own .

Cherzo received money through Patreon and also donations directly to his PayPal account, so Sky claims that his motivation for uploading that content was profit. In total, it had 111 Patreon subscribers, with payments ranging from 1 to 17 pounds a month, so the figure could easily exceed 1,000 pounds per month.

On Patreon he stated that he needed subscribers to “buy equipment and storage online to continue this.” He also stated that he would “like to obtain sources to record programs to publish, such as subscription to TV packages or IPTV servers.” Thus, it seems that their sources were even illegal IPTV links, without taking into account the risks of using pirted IPTV.

Cherzo did not hide

Identifying him was not difficult, since his real name appears in the PayPal email, as well as in his Steam and Facebook account. In addition, the name and details matched several old Sky accounts with his real address listed .

Thus, Sky TV has asked the judge to order Cherzo to stop uploading content, to stop sharing links on Reddit or anywhere on the Internet, and to prohibit him from helping anyone to carry out the same activity. Cherzo was aware that his activity was illegal, as Sky sent removal requests to Reddit, which in turn reached him. As a result, he asked subreddit users not to mention Sky’s name in requests. YouTube, for its part, did respond to Sky’s request, and closed the channel.

At the moment it is not known how much the fine or the sentence will be, but it is to be expected that there will be at least a large fine for the profit of the illicit activity, and there could even be a prison sentence.
