Therefore, if the case arises, it is very important to know what are the steps you have to follow to, first, try to recover your device and, second, protect all your content. Think that a multitude of data is included that is stored and available on that iPad. Therefore, in this post we tell you what you have to do if you are unlucky enough to find yourself in this situation.
Find it in the Search app
One of the tips that we always give to all users of any Apple device is that you have activated, in settings, the option “Find my …”, either on your iPad or on any device since, in this way, you will have much more chances to get your precious device back.
If you are reading this out of curiosity or to know the steps to follow in case at any time it happens to you, we recommend that you go to Settings right now, click on your profile that will appear at the top of the screen, click on ” Search “and activate the” Find my iPad “function.
Now, if you are reading this because you want to recover your lost or stolen iPad, what you have to do is, if you have another Apple device, such as the iPhone, open the “Search” app and at the bottom of the screen go to the section “Devices”, where you can find all your Apple devices that have this function activated and in this way, you can locate your iPad.
However, this function is not completely effective because, if the iPad is turned off or simply not connected to the internet, you will not be able to know the exact location of the device, but, in this case, you will be able to know the last location in which it was turned on or connected to the internet.
Lock it so that no one can access it
One of the biggest fears, in addition to having lost a very valuable device that costs a lot of money, is the fact that someone can access the data and content that you have stored on your iPad, therefore, again, the Search app will It will allow you to save all your data, photographs and even credit cards that you may have available on your iPad, since you will be able to block your device and make it completely useless for the person who has, at that moment, the iPad.
First of all, what we recommend is that you lock the iPad, in this way, the person who comes across the device will not be able to do anything with it. To do this, go to the Search application, select your iPad in the list of devices and activate the option “Mark as lost”. This function, in addition to blocking the device, also allows you to include a message on its screen with information for the person who finds it, so you can establish a phone number that they can call if they find the iPad.
Once you have remotely blocked your iPad, you can also delete all the content it contains, for this, we have to go to the Search application, if we have another Apple device, or, from any browser through the iCloud.com/find website. We log in with our Apple ID credentials, look for our device in the list of devices and select the option to “Delete this device”. Once this is done, it is very important that you DO NOT also activate the “Delete this device” option, since if you delete the device, the person who has the iPad at that moment will be able to access it without any problem since we will have eliminated the lock by iCloud .
Report to the police if it is stolen
If you are completely sure that your iPad has been stolen, apart from carrying out all the steps that we have described above, we also recommend that you report to the local police and in this way file a theft report, contributing all stolen iPad data. It is very important that among all the data you provide, it is very clear which is the model of your iPad, as well as its serial number and IMEI, which you have available in the device box.
Contact insurance, if any
Today there are insurance for all types of products, and, obviously, also for technological devices and more specifically, for iPads. Change passwords and remove iPad from trusted devices
To make sure you completely and avoid any doubt about whether or not your data may be threatened, we recommend that, despite having carried out all the steps described above, you also change the passwords of all your applications so that, in the event that the thief would like to enter any of these services, the session on the iPad, having changed the password, has been closed and cannot access.
