The fight in the entry range has become more interesting than ever with the arrival of realme. Now, Xiaomi has a tough rival to fight against, something that benefits the end user in terms of options and price wars. Two of the greatest exponents of cheap mobile phones of each brand are the r ealme 5 and the Xiaomi Redmi 8 . Today we wanted to face them to see their main differences and advantages of one over another.
The battle gets more and more complicated, especially since both terminals can be well below 150 euros. However, and that is something that seems to have “caught” against Xiaomi, the bet of realme in a terminal so cheap with four rear cameras , remains a real madness and it is difficult to find a rival.
Screen and dimensions
The Realme 5 reaches 6.5 inches, while the Redmi 8 stays at 6.2. The two have HD + resolution but the aspect ratio is slightly more stretched in the realm with its 20: 9, by 19: 9 of the Xiaomi. We also see how the Realme X5 is somewhat heavier by its 198 grams compared to the 188 grams of its rival. The difference in thickness is barely noticeable, with 9.3 millimeters per realm and 9.4 mm in the Redmi 8.
Processor and memory
Under the hood we find the seal of Qualcomm, but with important differences. The Realme 5 integrates the Snapdragon 665 , more powerful and advanced than the Snapdragon 439 of the Redmi 8. The two terminals offer memory configurations of 3 and 4 GB of RAM , but only the Realme 5 reaches 128 GB of internal memory , compared to the 64 of the Redmi 8. The Xiaomi terminal is also part of a more modest version with 32 GB of internal memory. Both can expand this storage using microSD cards.
Difference in the cameras
When we turn them around we see an insurmountable difference that can be a trigger for many users. Nobody would say that we are facing a terminal that starts at 134 euros when we see the four rear cameras of realme 5. They are led by a 12 megapixel sensor, although it also has an 8 megapixel wide angle and two 2 megapixel macro sensors each. In the front and housed in a drop-shaped notch we find the 13 megapixel selfie sensor.
The Redmi 8 for its part, shows a more conservative configuration, with two sensors of 12 and 2 megapixels, in addition to a front sensor of 8 megapixels, also housed in a drop-shaped notch.
Battery and OS
The two integrate the necessary basic connections, in addition to a fingerprint sensor in the back. At the moment they move with Android 9 Pie and the layers of their respective manufacturers, although they are expected to make the leap to Android 10 during these first measures of 2020. In the autonomy section we find two 5,000 mAh batteries , with fast charging 10W in Realme and 18 in the Xiaomi terminal.
The price says it all
If we look at prices, it really comes out once again victorious. At this time we can buy the Realme 5 on Amazon for 144 euros in its version of 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. However, we will pay only two euros less for the Redmi 8 of 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. For this and other aspects that we have seen as the cameras, it seems that the balance in this case falls strongly on the side of Realme 5.
