Some photos leaked a few minutes ago advance what the Chinese manufacturer’s smartphone with a flexible screen would be .
This CES 2021 that has already closed its doors has allowed us to take a closer look at the rolling devices of TCL and LG but now it is a folding phone from Xiaomi that has not been presented, but has been seen in public.
These images come from a Weibo user, taken of someone using a folding phone of the Chinese brand in a subway car. We know that it is a Xiaomi mobile because it is running MIUI, the brand’s Android customization layer and because, as you will see below, it is a device very similar to a manufacturer’s own patent.
As soon as the images were made public, they were removed, but GSMArena managed to save them so that we can show them to you. More than a mobile, it looks like a folding tablet as a book-style terminal can be seen, like the Samsung Galaxy Fold, something different from the folding one that Xiaomi advanced in the past with two hinges.
We assume that it is a prototype of a future folding mobile of the brand because, as you can see in the photos, the screen has a fold that is obvious, hindering the visibility of the display. That leads us to think that what you see in the photos is a test model intended to experiment with a certain design.
Very similar to the Xiaomi patent
If we realize, this equipment is very, very similar to a patent for a folding device that was already granted a few months ago to the brand where you see a device deployed with a large screen that, when folded, shows off a rear screen .
This patent reveals that Xiaomi’s folding mobile would have a module at the top where the front camera is hidden, but it is something that we still cannot see in the leaked photos.
