QNAP launches new high-performance NAS, meet the TVS-hx74

The manufacturer QNAP has just presented today its new family of high-performance NAS servers. If you are interested in buying a NAS with very new hardware, and with expansion possibilities through expansion cards via PCIe, the new TVS-hx74 family is ideal for you. This new family is not only very powerful at the hardware level, but we also have the possibility to choose which operating system to choose (QTS or QuTS hero). Do you want to know all the details of these new members?

Characteristics of the new TVS-hx74 family

This new family of powerful NAS servers from QNAP has a total of 3 servers with different number of hard drive bays (4-bay, 6-bay or 8-bay version). Unlike other families where we have exactly the same hardware, in this case, depending on which model we choose, we will have a different processor, so we must take it into account when choosing the number of bays. Next, we are going to detail the characteristics of the three models.

Features of the TVS-h474

This NAS has an Intel Pentium Gold G7400 processor , it is Dual-Core at a speed of 3.7GHz , it has an integrated Intel UHD Graphics 710 GPU. This processor has AES-NI hardware encryption acceleration , it also has transcoding hardware accelerated . This computer comes with a default RAM memory of 8GB capacity (1 x 8GB SODIMM DDR4), it is expandable up to 128GB capacity (2 x 64GB DDR4). Of course, it has a 5GB flash memory inside to store the QTS or QuTS hero dual-boot operating system.

This model has a total of 4 bays for 2.5” hard drives or SSDs , we also have 2 M.2 2280 PCIe Gen3 x2 slots to install M.2 NVMe drives and use them as SSD cache, main storage or with Qtier.

Regarding connectivity, we have 2 2.5G Multigigabit ports with support for Jumbo Frames, we also have a PCIe 4.0 x16 port and another PCIe 3.0 x2 port to install expansion cards and improve connectivity. Finally, it has a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port at 10Gbps type C and two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports at 10Gbps type A, it also incorporates an HDMI 1.4b port with 4K output at 30Hz.

Features of the TVS-h674

This model in its “cheap” version mounts an Intel i3-12100 processor that is Quad-Core at a speed of 3.3GHz although it reaches 4.3GHz in turbo mode and integrates the Intel UHD Graphics 730 GPU. This NAS comes with 16GB of DDR4 SODIMM RAM. In the “powerful” version, it mounts an Intel i5-12400 processor that has 6 cores at a speed of 2.5GHz although it reaches 4.4GHz in turbo mode and integrates the Intel UHD Graphics 770 GPU. This model is accompanied by 32GB of SODIMM DDR4 RAM. Both processors have hardware encryption acceleration and hardware transcoding. This model can also be upgraded to 128GB RAM (2 x 64GB DDR4).

This TVS-h674 has 6 bays for 2.5” hard drives or SSDs , we also have 2 M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 x4 slots to install super fast M.2 NVMe drives, of course, it supports SSD cache acceleration, use it as a main storage pool or Qtier.

Regarding connectivity, we have 2 2.5G Multigigabit ports with support for Jumbo Frames, a PCIe 4.0 x16 port and another PCIe 4.0 x4 port to install expansion cards. It also has a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port at 10Gbps type C and two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports at 10Gbps type A, it also incorporates an HDMI 1.4b port with 4K output at 30Hz.
