Sony has gradually revealed details about its new virtual reality glasses in recent months. The company confirmed that it was working on them for PS5 , and then they showed their controller. Now, the company has announced all the technical characteristics of its new VR glasses , which they have called PlayStation VR2.
PS VR2 improves on its predecessors in everything. The glasses that we could use on PS4 were somewhat limited in refresh rate and resolution, with a rather limited quality due to the low power of the console. However, with PS5 we have much more power and more graphic fidelity, so the user experience will be much better.
More than twice the resolution of PS VR
At the resolution level, the glasses have 2000 x 2040 pixels per eye ( 4000 x 2040 pixels in total ) with an OLED panel and a refresh rate of 90/120 Hz . With this, we have slightly more than twice the resolution of the previous glasses, with a refresh rate that also reaches up to 120 Hz . It has approximately 110 degrees of field of view, and uses USB C connectivity. The separation of the lenses is adjustable.
The motion tracking is the same as what we find in glasses like those from manufacturers like Oculus, with an inside-out system. With it, the glasses track you and the movement of the controls through cameras integrated into the headset itself without the need to use an external camera as was the case in the previous model.
In addition to this improvement, the glasses integrate new functions such as eye tracking, feedback in the headset itself through vibration, 3D audio, and the new PS VR2 Sense controls that improve the feeling of immersion with the same DualSense triggers and haptic feedback.
The dive will be even better
The vibration integrated in the headset itself allows you to feel, for example, the tension of the character, the acceleration of a vehicle, or objects that pass near the head. Together with 3D audio , we will have one of the best immersive sensations on the market. Eye movement detection adds an additional point of control to the game, allowing you to interact more naturally in the game.
The PS VR2s connect via a single cable to the PS5 , making it easier than ever to use them on the console. The rest of the characteristics include a motor with six movement axes (three for gyroscope and three for accelerometer), 4 cameras to detect movement, infrared sensor for the eyes, microphone, and headphone jack.
Sony has also announced that it is developing Horizon Call of the Mountain , an exclusive game for virtual reality, which will allow players to enjoy a more immersive experience within the world of Horizon.
With this, the only thing left to know is the final appearance that these glasses will have, as well as its price and release date . Sony has not given any details about it, so we will have to wait a little longer to know those details.
