Protect Your Netflix Profile by Putting a PIN Code

Netflix now incorporates the possibility of blocking each profile with a PIN code individually or globally, restricting the viewing of all with the same code. The PIN code on Netflix helps us to improve parental control but it is also recommended in case you are going to share an account with other people, acquaintances or family or friends, and you want to keep what you see in the video service in “secret” streaming so that other users do not know.

Beyond parental control, this PIN code on Netflix helps us keep gossips or curious people with whom we share accounts away. For example, if you want them to not know what series you are watching or if you want them not to enter your profile to see content that you are not interested in, among many other options. Of course you can also use it to block adult profiles and that children cannot access if you are using the streaming service, but it is a function that many users have requested in order to keep hidden what they see or what they do not see in the platform.

New control functions

Netflix was updated in April 2020 adding new options and updating parental controls and to improve the privacy of users, whether or not there are children or minors using the account. Until now, it was enough to go to the Netflix parental control option and choose the age to filter the content. Now there are more options such as restrictions on viewing or profile lock with a PIN code for everyone, not just for the little ones in the house.

To access the parental control you will not have to follow the same steps as always if you have the latest version activated. If not, you can activate it.

  • From the usual browser, open the Netflix website
  • Access with your username and password
  • Go to the Account option
  • Choose the “Parental Control” option

In the event that when you go to Account> Parental control this option does not appear, it will mean that you already have the latest updated version that allows you to manage controls individually for each of the account profiles to restrict the content according to the child or the girl or teenager who is going to use that profile or simply put a PIN code to avoid gossip, even if your friends are adults. Once you have accessed the new parental control page you can:

  • Set a PIN code for each profile
  • Choose an age rating level for each profile
  • See which titles are restricted for each of the profiles

Share account on Netflix

Netflix has three different plans that you can choose from and you can share each account with multiple people. There are three plans available, although only two will help you if you want to share the account, the Standard plan and the Premium plan:

  • Standard Plan for 11.99 euros per month with access to the entire catalog and with the possibility of simultaneously viewing content on two accounts.
  • Premium plan for 15.99 euros per month and with the possibility of playing content at once on up to four devices so you can share the account between four people or even five, since it allows you to create five different profiles if you need an ‘extra’ one for children or simply if you are not going to watch a series or movie all at once. You would only have to pay about four euros a month to access the entire catalog of series and movies.

Create a PIN code

The Netflix PIN code allows access to a specific profile, which you have created within the same account, to be protected. It can be useful in the event that children cannot see content rated for an older age when they are out of their profile but it can also be very useful if you do not want your siblings or friends to see what you have seen. This is the most interesting option since it is common for us to share an account with someone (parents, siblings, friends …) and we do not want them to gossip about our viewing activity, which series we like or to reproduce content in our profile by mistake.

To put a PIN code to a profile the first thing you will have to do is have the profiles created. Once ready, access Netflix with your email and password.

  • Open Netflix in your browser from your computer
  • Access your profile
  • Go to the upper right corner and click on your photo
  • Open the “Account” option
  • Go to the bottom of the page and you will see the profiles
  • Open the profile you want to manage at that moment
  • Click on the option “Profile lock”
  • Enter the password for your Netflix account
  • Enter four numbers to create your PIN

Netflix

You can create the PIN and Netflix will ask for it every time you access the profile. If you have forgotten the blocking PIN, just click on the Forgot PIN? At the bottom of the screen, you can type the password for your Netflix account to edit, delete or access that profile. Anyone with your streaming service password will be able to click on this forgotten PIN option but you will receive an email indicating that the code has been tried to change or has been removed.

The code will be activated on all devices and in all accounts. If you try to access from the mobile you will also see that it requires you to enter the four-digit code, from the tablet or from another computer. Until you remove it.

Age rating

As before, you can choose the age rating for the profile you want and the title restrictions individually, although this has nothing to do with the previous option. Now the functions are independent and you can activate one or the other when you need to. Regardless of whether you have created the Netflix PIN code or not, you can follow the same steps to access the title and age restrictions.

  • Open Netflix in your browser
  • Access your profile
  • Open the Account section
  • Go to the bottom of the page
  • Choose the profile you want
  • Check the option “Restrictions on viewing”
  • Enter your Netflix password to configure it
  • Mark the age you need on the slider
  • Fill in the restrictions for series or movie titles
  • Confirm with the Save button.
