Windows 10 is a powerful operating system that we can enjoy hand in hand with Microsoft. It is packed with functions and features that never stop growing and improving our experience with the software. One of them is the controversial assistant of the firm, Cortana , which is what we want to talk about in these lines.
It is more than likely that many of you have already realized that the market for digital assistants that we are talking about has not stopped growing. We find them in a multitude of devices and belonging to various high-profile technology companies. Not in vain here we refer to firms such as Apple, Google or Amazon , technology companies that have wanted to bet on their own assistants.

And of course Microsoft could not be less, hence the Redmond have their own alternative of this type, Cortana. This is an element that for years we have found in the different versions of Windows 10. However, despite the efforts of Redmond, the wizard does not have the desired acceptance at first. That is why a good part of the hundreds of millions of the operating system end up deactivating the functionality as such.
However, some at the same time disable Cortana on their Windows-based computers to, in their view, save PC resources . It is precisely about this topic that we will talk to you next, about whether deactivating Cortana in Windows really helps us reduce the consumption of computer resources.

Cortana hardly consumes PC resources
First of all we will tell you that the assistant that is included with Windows 10, Cortana, barely consumes PC resources. Therefore, if we have it active in the Redmond operating system, we will hardly notice that it is there running in the background. That is why if we think that we are going to use this wizard in our day-to-day with Windows , let’s leave it active without worrying about resource consumption.
Keep in mind that like the rest of Windows 10 UWP applications , Cortana adapts perfectly to the system.
Cortana may be working on older computers
But of course, although it is not too much, the operation of Cortana in the background entails some consumption of PC resources. As you can imagine, in the event that you have a somewhat old computer, or limited in terms of its hardware, we will notice it. Therefore, at this point, we might be interested in deactivating the Windows assistant in order to use that RAM in other tasks that we really need.
How to disable the assistant in Windows 10
Therefore and if we find ourselves in the aforementioned situation, we can deactivate Cortana so that it stops consuming PC resources. We can do this temporarily from the Windows 10 Task Manager itself. We access it with the key combination Ctrl + Shift + Esc and look for the Cortana input. We click with the right button and finish the task. In the same way, and from the Start tab of this same window, we can make the voice assistant not start together with the operating system.
