After users had been demanding it from Google for years, the company finally brought Dark Mode to the entire system in Android 10. Before, some brands had already done it by altering their respective customization layers and with Android 11 the brand finished polishing This way of taking care of our eye health and, in addition, save battery.
Today the dark theme has become one of the most outstanding characteristics of our mobiles, and not only because of the aesthetic change it produces on the mobile. Most users prefer to use a darker theme claiming that it allows application icons to look better than lighter alternatives as well as for other reasons such as those mentioned. But this does not mean that we want to lose control over it.
On numerous occasions this function of our smartphones has encountered some obstacles along the way and many users have had to face the problem that it activates and deactivates itself. We will try to find out why.
First of all, watch if you have it programmed
Regardless of the mobile you have in your hands, you will find the possibility to activate the Dark Mode / Dark Theme in the screen settings. Depending on the brand of your mobile you can choose between different shades of black and, most importantly, establish an option to program this functionality that would automatically switch between black and white backgrounds, when a certain time is reached.
This may be one of the main reasons why the mode turns on or off by itself. It is not a system error but a human problem related to the programming of the smartphone. To check if it is properly configured, open the Settings panel of the mobile, select Display, open the Dark Mode menu and check that the Automatic activation option is deactivated. If not, deactivate it to prevent it from being enabled only when arriving at a certain time.
Does it happen in the whole system or only in some apps?
The implementation of Dark Mode in applications is quite different from the implementation of the whole system. In applications, developers do not usually have to think about possible errors like the ones we are trying to solve since they simply turn this tool into a kind of “theme” that hardly alters the colors of the app and that’s it.
But its activation is independent of the system’s Dark Mode . Therefore, if we have the problem on Facebook, WhatsApp or any other app, what we must do is access the application’s own settings and configure them manually. These types of applications only allow you to activate or deactivate the theme, nothing to program it, so you simply have to check if the button that enables it is activated or not regardless of how you have configured the system settings.
If you still cannot activate the famous mode, you can try to update the app, or uninstall it and install it again to see if it has an error that prevents us from using it as we want.
Fix the problem with Dark Mode
Unlike what we have seen in the apps, the implementation of Dark Mode throughout the system, as Google has done since Android 10 and the different manufacturers with their respective layers of customization, is much more complicated. The unpredictable behavior, function override, and implementation in all menus and submenus in the system make it a function that can fail quite regularly and work “as it pleases”.
Check the power saving mode
Many mobiles, if not all and that they call us exaggerated, have an energy saving mode that, if activated, can make Dark Mode activate automatically . You can also lower the saturation of the colors on the screen to give the impression that the theme has been automatically enabled when, in reality, it is not.
If it is activated, the most likely thing is that the interface of your smartphone changes when it is plugged into the charger or when a certain battery threshold is crossed. We do not recommend deactivating this option but if you prefer, you should access the Battery Settings, within the device’s configuration section and check if it also has some type of programming activated.
Clear system launcher cache and data
When a system function does not work as it should, the reason is usually found in the mobile launcher itself, which, for reasons that we cannot know, has run into an error and is playing it continuously. Before getting desperate and restarting the smartphone completely, we can always “restore” the launcher from the mobile’s own settings.
You can achieve it by entering the mobile Settings and selecting the Applications menu. Here on the top right, in the drop-down menu, you must select to see all system apps and then locate the launcher of your mobile brand. Once found, click on Storage and then click on the Clear storage and Clear cache buttons.
Force Dark Mode
The Developer Options , those that we activate by pressing several times on the device’s build number (within the System menu, in case you wonder), can give us more than one solution when there is a problem on the mobile that never seems to be. let’s find “the correct key”.
If Android Dark Mode is being activated, it may only be that the “Force Dark Mode” option present in the aforementioned Developer Options is enabled. This will cause that, as soon as the smartphone does not know what to do (due to some secondary problem) the screen is dyed dark. If you want to avoid it, all you have to do is check that this function is disabled.
Use Activity Launcher
Diving through the support forums of different companies we have seen that some users have managed to solve the problems with the Dark Mode of their mobile, be it Xiaomi, Samsung, Realme or another brand, with an app called Activity Launcher . This application is used to find hidden settings and functions in certain software.
All you have to do is enter the app and type the term “Dark” in your search engine. All the settings related to the dark theme of the mobile will be displayed on the screen, either from the screen settings themselves or from the phone’s battery settings. If you have this problem, you will surely discover an option that activates Dark Mode at certain times or when the mobile reaches a certain battery level.
Factory restoration
If everything you have tried does not get the Dark Mode to stop activating only when it wants , it is likely that there is a problem in the system, either due to the installation of a malicious app or an error that has been lodged in the software, which prevents you from using this function normally.
A factory reset involves returning the phone to its original state, so everything we have done with it will return to its initial state and, in addition to all the data on the phone, the errors that have been dragged since the first power on will be erased. of the telephone.
After making a backup, go to the System settings, select Erase all data / Factory restore and follow the instructions on the screen to try to put an end to your Android’s uncomfortable Dark Mode problems once and for all.
