Practice Swimming with Apple Watch by Following These Tips

If you want to start training in the pool , you should bear in mind that you can monitor it quite accurately thanks to the Apple Watch. In this article we tell you everything you need to know to do a good swimming training with the Apple Watch.

Choosing the right workout

Before starting the training in the pool we must indicate on the Apple Watch a series of parameters. With these parameters it will be possible to optimize in a much more exact way the strokes that we give, and we will also activate the screen lock to avoid accidental touches. To start the training you must follow the following steps:

Swimming with Apple Watch

  1. Enter the Apple Watch ‘Training’ application.
  2. Look for the training ‘Open water swimming’ (like in the sea) or ‘Swimming in pool’.
  3. Click on the three dots that appear on the right side of the workout.
  4. It establishes the length of the pool, in the case of choosing the training ‘Swimming in pool’. In this way the Apple Watch will be able to count the number of lengths that we have done to have more accurate data.
  5. Wait three seconds and start training.

If for any reason you need to stop in training, you can press and hold the digital crown and the side button for a second to stop it. To resume it the same action is performed.

Before starting the training, we can choose both the distance we want to cover, the time or the calories to burn. In this way, the clock will warn us when we should stop training once we have reached the objective that we have set ourselves in this way. Once the training begins on the screen we will always have some customizable data visible, such as the temperature, the calories activated, the average time at 100 meters, among others.

Finish training

If we want to finish the training, simply press the digital crown next to the side button to stop data collection. A priori we will see how the watch screen is locked to avoid false touches and to unlock it, simply slide the digital crown. Once we can manipulate the options on the screen, we will simply slide to the right with our finger and click on ‘Finish’ marked with an X.

Once we have finished, a summary of all our metrics will be shown throughout the training. Obviously everything is registered in the ‘Activity’ application that we have on our iPhone in the ‘Training’ tab. Here the data is much better explained and represented so that we have all the necessary information to monitor our physical performance.

Tips to avoid water problems

Obviously we are talking about training with an electronic device on our wrist. And we already know that electronic equipment does not get along very well with water, so we must be very careful about it. The first thing to know is that only models from the Apple Watch Series 2 onwards can be submerged in water. The previous models, although it has water resistance, is not indicated to perform this type of exercise.

But even if we have a submersible Apple Watch we must be very careful since the sealing gaskets can end up failing. From Apple they thought of a blocking mode that prevents water droplets on the Apple Watch from creating false touches as we have mentioned. But it is also tremendously useful when the training is over, since when you unlock the device, a beep sounds that will eliminate the water that would have been stored in the different holes such as in the speaker.

Although we have this interesting lock mode on the Apple Watch, we must be quite careful. When we finish training we should use a chamois to clean the water that has adhered to the watch and never introduce elements through the openings. It is always preferable to leave it on the load base so that the liquid stored in it evaporates.

Optimize workouts

When we are training in the pool , the GPS function is not used. This makes it extremely important to introduce the length distance of the pool so that the laps we are going to measure are measured. Another problem that we are going to encounter is that due to the water, a timely measurement of the heart rate will not be made, so length accuracy is vital.

In the case that we are on the high seas, the GPS function does provide information on the distance that is covered in free style. But in the same way, water can make it difficult to take your heart rate.
