Nobody buys laptops anymore, unless they have the Apple logo

More and more users are betting on laptops for their great power and versatility. But, the computer market in general is practically in a coma, with brutal declines in sales after two years driven by COVID-19. The latest report from Canalys shows in the third quarter of 2022 a drop in the laptop market of 13.5%.

The truth is that the data is brutal, with falls in sales of the main manufacturers of between 7% and 28%. It is interesting to see that the only brand that is saved is Apple, which registers an increase of 1.5% compared to the same period last year.

Brutal decline in sales of the laptop market

For months we have seen how the sale of computer products has fallen dramatically. During the pandemic, many upgraded their laptops and desktops to work from home. That brutal increase in demand has passed and now the figures are back to normal. But of course, figures are given along the way that seem more brutal than they really are.

Apple currently leads the laptop market with a market share of just over 22%, up 1.5% . It is interesting to see how the only one that is saved from the disaster is the company with the bitten apple.

Lenovo falls to second position with an 18.4% market share and a drop in sales of more than 20% . HP is third with a share of 12%, being the one that falls the most , registering a drop of almost 30%.

Fourth place is held by Dell with just over 11% market share and a drop of more than 21% . Samsung occupies fifth place with just under 7% market share, falling to around 13%.

All this data is based on a comparison of sales between the third quarter of 2022 and the third quarter of 2021. Remember that in 2021 there were still quite a few restrictions due to COVID-19. Now the situation is very different and there are hardly any limitations in this regard, especially due to mass vaccination.

The market in general registers a drop in sales of 13.5%, which is a big drop. It is also foreseeable that in 2023 sales will rise again, although we should not expect big data.

Despite everything, there are products that are more expensive

Although the market registers a significant drop in sales, some products have become more expensive. Above all, it is visible in NVIDIA graphics cards, which are becoming more and more absurdly expensive. Not only are they more expensive, they also have a runaway consumption that is trying to make up with unnecessary performance improvements.

PCIe 5.0 SSDs are close to being released, which will be extremely expensive products. But in this case it is positive, since it could allow PCIe 4.0 SSDs to drop significantly in price.

On the other hand, DDR5 RAM has been falling in price little by little. These memories are still quite expensive, but with the arrival of new models and more compatible processors, their prices should improve in the coming months.
