It may have happened to you: WhatsApp messages arrive but your phone does not notify you until you open the application and you see that you have dozens of pending conversations that you have not paid attention to in hours. If you do not receive WhatsApp messages until you open the application, there may be several causes and these are the solutions you must follow, step by step.
You will have to verify that your notifications are activated, that you have permissions activated for your messages to arrive or that the application is working correctly. You can go following a series of steps and configure your phone to prevent your messages from remaining pending hours.
Turn off your phone
It may seem obvious but the first thing you can do to verify that everything is fine is to turn off your phone, wait for about thirty seconds and then turn it on again. If something is failing, it may reset automatically without you doing anything else. If not, follow the following solutions.
Check Do Not Disturb Mode
Another of the first things you should do in WhatsApp and one of the most obvious is to verify that you do not have the Do Not Disturb mode activated that causes notifications to not be displayed during this time. Check it from settings:
- Go to your mobile phone settings
- Access the Sound / Sounds and vibration section
- Go to “Do not disturb”
- Check that it is not activated
Make sure you have the permissions activated
Go to WhatsApp to verify that you have all the permissions activated of the application on your mobile phone and in this way you will ensure that this is not the problem.
- Go to mobile settings
- Access the applications section
- Choose WhatsApp
- Open the permission section
- Check that all are activated
- Try again if the messages arrive
Check the battery saving
If “battery saving” has been activated on your mobile, the applications will not be working unless you open it in order to avoid wasting the battery.
- Open mobile phone settings
- Go to Battery
- Search «Energy Saving Mode»
- Turn it off

Uninstall a task manager
It is possible that you have an application that manages the tasks of your smartphone or that is responsible for saving energy. You may have blocked access to the application when it is not open and this is why the messages do not arrive.
- Go to your phone settings
- Search the applications section

Check that you have an Internet connection
You may not have an Internet connection on your mobile phone. The first thing you should check is that your smartphone works correctly. Background data
The “Restrict background data” or “Background data” feature of WhatsApp causes the application to not consume data if it is operating in the background. - Check that the Background data option is enabled
