Technology, like everything, evolves over time. There are more and more details that we must take into account when getting a new monitor, whether it is flat or curved. These have been improving over time, and now on the market it is possible to get monitors with impressive quality. Very soon we will have to take into account a new standard, which will measure the blur on all types of digital screens . We tell you more about it.
This new standard comes from the Video Electronics Standards Association (or VESA) and as we have said before, it will provide a new metric that will measure motion blur in digital displays of all kinds, including monitors, televisions and computers with integrated screens such as laptops or even tablets.

The new standard is called ClearMR
As we say, this new standard, which is called ClearMR, will measure blur on digital screens. The new metric, called the Clear Motion Ratio (CMR), will give a clear value based on a ratio of clear pixels to blurred pixels in moving images , allowing consumers to easily compare blurring across multiple monitors. that are certified to the new ClearTM standard.
This new metric mainly replaces the current method that measures blur, which is called MPRT , which is the response time of moving images. What this method did is measure how long a pixel remains on the screen in a visible way. The longer that pixel remains on the visible screen, the blurrier the moving image will be.

The new ClearMR standard will be more transparent to the consumer, as previous time-based methods used to measure motion blur did not take into account a range of image enhancement and blur mitigation techniques. that most monitors or screens usually have today. However, this new standard limits the use of these techniques when doing the tests, which will make the result much more precise .
All products submitted for ClearMR certification will be tested using a high-speed digital camera that will take images of a test pattern that moves across the screen as it changes from frame to frame. These images are compiled into a profile and analyzed to give it a CMR value.
The ClearMR logo will have various levels of performance depending on how each display performs during testing. These levels are based on the ratio of bright pixels to blurred pixels as a percentage, so the more bright pixels on the screen, the better the ClearMR certification . As we have mentioned before, this will allow consumers to have a new value that will allow them to have more information about how the screen behaves with moving images, something that will be very important with video games, for example.
Dale Stolitzka , Senior Principal Investigator at Samsung Display R&D Lab in the US: “With ClearMR, VESA is providing the electronics industry with an open standard that gives consumers the confidence of knowing they are buying a television, a computer laptop or a monitor that meets the most well-defined set of blur criteria. Supporting VESA’s Clear™ standard with a logo program will allow buyers to feel confident that they are getting a display with the clearest representation of the action for maximum viewing pleasure.”
