We’ve been hearing rumors about what’s new and more powerful from Motorola since late last year. Some of the big brands such as Xiaomi and Samsung have already moved to publicize the most powerful of 2021, and now it has been Motorola that has presented the new Motorola Edge S. We are facing a powerful terminal, thanks to the integration of the new Snapdragon 870 processor , which does not forget the premium design.
Hand in hand with Lenovo, Motorola has managed to awaken the interest of users again , thanks to the launch of a very balanced terminal. However, since the beginning of the alliance, many have missed Motorola launching devices capable of fighting in the high range. This changed last year with the launch of the Motorola Edge Plus, a terminal with a Snapdragon 865 processor and versions with up to 12 GB of RAM. Now, Motorola wants to start 2021 with another high-end terminal, which also debuts the new Snapdragon 870 processor.
Features of the Motorola Edge S
The Motorola Edge S has a design that is reminiscent of other terminals in the house, such as the G9, at least in the design of its back and the position of the camera module. However, we are facing a device that goes up a couple of steps to position itself as a premium option , which although it does not reach the power levels of the terminals with Snapdragon 888, it is not too far away.
The terminal has a generously sized screen, reaching 6.79 inches with FullHD + resolution (1080 x 2520 pixels) compatible with HDR10. It also offers a 90 Hz refresh rate and sports a double hole to house two 16 and 8 megapixel selfie sensors. As we said, inside it integrates the Snapdragon 870, a new Qualcomm chip for a higher mid-range, more “modest” that may contain a little more prices compared to the Snapdragon 888. However, in the tests carried out with the AnTuTu program and Leaked prior to this presentation, they awarded more than 680,000 points to the Motorola Edge S.
As for its memory, the Motorola Edge S can be accompanied by 8 or 12 GB of RAM, along with 128 or 256 GB of internal storage. Keep in mind that we are talking about LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1 memory, which improves performance in processing tasks and files. In addition, Motorola has reported that the device is compatible with the new Desktop Mode, which increases the possibilities of productivity, connecting the mobile to any monitor, as other manufacturers such as Samsung or Huawei already do.
In its back it has four cameras, with a 64 megapixel main sensor, which are accompanied by a 16 megapixel ultra wide-angle sensor, a two megapixel super macro lens and a ToF 3D sensor to improve focus. It also has advanced features like Audio Zoom, to avoid being able to focus on important sounds when zooming in on a video recording, and can record video in 6K. This also applies to front-facing videos. On the front we find the aforementioned 16+ 8 megapixel sensors, housed in the double front hole of its screen.
We are facing a terminal compatible with 5G, which also has a generous 5,000 mAh battery compatible with 20W fast charging . Of course and how could it be otherwise, will come standard with Android 11.
Price and date of sale
The Motorola Edge S begins its sale today in China, and can be purchased in silver and blue. The official prices are as follows:
- Motorola Edge S 6GB + 128GB: 1,999 yuan (about 255 euros to change)
- Motorola Edge S 8GB + 128GB: 2,399 yuan (about 305 euros to change)
- Motorola Edge S 8GB + 256GB: 2,799 yuan (about 356 euros to change)
At the moment we do not know the international marketing plans for this device. However, rumors prior to this presentation suggest that its version outside of China could be known as Motorola G100.
