What’s New in iOS 14: Widgets and Wallpapers Leaked

Last March was very fruitful for rumors and leaks of new Apple software. There was a reveal of the alpha phase of iOS 14, which is a pre-beta stage, as that’s when changes are still being made. Now we have known a new leak that some users have liked a lot for being something they have been claiming for years.

Beyond its good operation, iOS has always stood out for an aspect that for many is negative: the little customization of the system. It is not something that affects the performance or the intuitive interface of the iPhone, but perhaps it can mean a negative difference compared to other systems such as Android. We don’t know why Apple doesn’t allow these operating systems to be customized too much, but now they seem to have changed their minds slightly.

From DoongleBookPro’s Twitter account, images referring to Apple news have been published on several occasions and have been confirmed months later. In recent days, he published a series of images belonging to the new iOS 14 wallpaper selector, which would allow adding a smart wallpaper. It really is somewhat similar to what we see with watchOS dials, as it could adapt an iPhone wallpaper in a distorted format, with a solid color or a dark version.

A priori, this option seems less interesting, despite not being something revolutionary. It will be one more customization option for the user and we will wait to see if there is also something more related to it or if there is any reason for its incorporation in the new versions of iOS and iPadOS , because it also seems that the latter would incorporate these novelties . Not surprisingly, the iPad system will continue on the same basis as that of the iPhone.

Finally movable widgets?

With iOS 9 we saw the arrival of widgets to iOS, which have been integrated in the “Today” view since then. These are visible on the left side of the home screen of our iPhone, but it is not possible to include them among the applications. With iPadOS 13 we saw the possibility of pinning them on this screen, but they were still on the left. It seems that now Apple will go one step further.

Under the code name of “Avocado”, the same Twitter account has revealed that we will be able to insert widgets between the apps . Something similar to what we have on Android and that many users have claimed for too long. It is even possible that we could see them on the locked screen , which would be very useful to have a preview of some applications.

Unfortunately we would still be talking about an alpha phase, so this functionality could also be discarded. Therefore we cannot yet ring the bells. It will be Apple itself that finishes confirming it at WWDC 2020, which will take place telematically next June. Other watchOS, macOS, tvOS operating systems will be presented at this same event and who knows if the firm led by Tim Cook will have any other surprises.
