7 months ago the new Movistar Smart WiFi 6 router was presented. The blue operator has been one of the last to jump on the bandwagon of this new wireless technology that offers many advantages over the previous ones. We have more speed, better coverage or management of connected devices, which translates into a better use of the Internet connection. At first it was installed free of charge to 5,000 customers who currently have old equipment, but now the time has come to launch it to all customers. The current router, that is, the HGU or Smart WiFi was launched 6 years ago. This is too long a period for the technology, so a renovation was necessary. This is offered in rental mode, like the rest of the operator’s equipment, requiring its return when unsubscribing to avoid paying a penalty.
Movistar’s Smart WiFi 6 model will be offered to customers in exchange for a single fee of 50 euros in the self-installation mode . If the client requests the installation of the self-installable equipment, the installation costs amount to 50 euros, so we would have to pay a total of 100 euros.
Even so, they will be the minimum cases since everything is prepared to install it yourself in a simple way. Basically, we must follow these steps :
- Disconnect the fiber optic cable from your old router and connect it to the fiber optic port on the new equipment. The new Smart WiFi 6 router has a black protector that you will have to remove first. Keep in mind that the cable that connects the equipment to the socket is very delicate, so do not pull hard to avoid breakage.
- Connect the telephone cable to the “Telf” port of the equipment with a telephone jack in your house. If you only have a landline, you can plug it directly into the phone port of the equipment instead of the socket.
- Plug the power adapter into the mains and into the equipment connector. Push the switch to the on position and check that all the LEDs are solid blue.
- Connect to your network via WiFi, by WPS, by reading the QR of your router so that your device connects automatically or by using an Ethernet cable.
Differences and improvements with respect to the current model
Although we have already commented on it on several occasions, we believe that it is necessary to re-emphasize the differences and improvements of this new model with respect to the Smart WiFi that is currently installed. In this case, it offers 25% more coverage, multiplies the speed by 3.5 and has 40% more capacity to have more devices connected.
In addition, it allows you to create a single WiFi network with the same name and key, regardless of the frequency band in which they operate or has greater energy efficiency since the devices connected to the WiFi 6 network use less battery and energy.
