Motorola: How to Fix Problems with the microSD Card

That a mobile phone has a slot to expand its internal memory through microSD cards is highly appreciated by most users. Motorola mobiles continue to maintain this option to a greater extent, but many times users have problems. We will review the most common failures that can occur with microSD cards and how to fix them.

There are many variables that can cause microSD card failures in our Motorola mobiles. The forums are full of different models and problems, but in most cases the solution usually has a common denominator.

MicroSD card problems

Regardless of whether we may be facing a hardware problem that requires changing the card reader, we are going to see how to solve this problem, since sometimes the fault is not the phone or the card. In many occasions, due to the great type of microSD cards available in the market.

The phone does not read the card

We are facing what is perhaps the most common mistake. For this reason, the string of tests and possible solutions is also quite extensive. We must try to test them all to find the fault and rule out other factors. After each step, we will have to check if the problem has disappeared and if not, go to the next one.

  • We turn off the phone and turn it on again.
  • Check that the card is not misplaced in its reading tray. If so, and once inserted correctly, we turn off the terminal and turn it on again.
  • Check that the card is activated: To do this, go to Configuration / Storage. If we read “Ejected” under the name of the card, we touch the name and then “Activate”. Then we turn off the phone and turn it on again.
  • If the card was formatted as portable storage, we will have to use another device to verify that the card can be read. For this we insert the card into another device. In case the device can read the card and it contains the files, we will have to make a backup copy of the files on our PC and format it to try to detect our mobile phone again. It is very important that formatting be done on the FAT32 file system.
  • Make sure that the microSD card is supported by our mobile. Sometimes a capacity that exceeds the maximum allowed by the reader of our Motorola, can cause reading errors.

Applications do not open microSD files

In this case it is possible that they are all or some specific application that cannot be read from the microSD card. In these cases we will have to carry out the following steps:

  • We install a different file manager app from Play Store. Once done we use that application to check if it is possible to read the files on that card.
  • Check if it is possible to read the files on a Windows PC: for this we turn off the phone and remove the card. Then we put the card in the SD card slot of the computer or in a connected USB SD card reader.

If all else fails

If all these steps do not work, we can try to clear the cache of the device to try to free the system of possible compatibility problems. To do this we go to the Settings / Applications menu / tap on the 3 points at the top right / Show System / Storage Manager / Storage / Clear Cache. If it does not work we can start thinking about going to the nearest Technical Service so that they can verify if it is a hardware problem that may require repair of the internal reader.
