MIUI 12 Restarts on Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco: How to Fix

An old acquaintance of Xiaomi has reappeared on the scene to everyone’s surprise, with MIUI 12 some mobiles restart on their own without us being able to do anything other than look at the mobile, or at least that’s what it seems. Investigating, we have found solutions that could avoid us having to go to the technical service or live with this serious problem that increasingly affects more mobile phones.

MIUI 12 Restarts on Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco

This is not a problem that is linked only to Xiaomi or Redmi mobiles, but it also affects users of devices signed by Poco. In most cases, it occurs when making the jump from MIUI 11 to MIUI 12 , which causes this latest version to be blamed for one of the most popular layers of the problem we find.

Restarts and screen failures in MIUI 12

What users have found after updating their mobile is that everything seemed normal until after a few seconds and in other cases a few minutes, the mobile began to fail with sudden power off and on. But the biggest problem comes seconds later, because in almost all mobiles with this problem MIUI 12 restarts and when the problem is turned on again.

In the forums and social networks the complaints begin to accumulate without stopping, and we can even see videos of users where they show us what happens on their mobiles with nothing more than touching the screen. In this case, the mobile that is affected is a Poco X3 NFC, of which we have found countless complaints on Reddit and other portals. But the bug has also appeared on the Redmi Note 7, Redmi Note 9 and Xiaomi Mi 9T. With this we verify that the error is directly linked to MIUI and is not a specific problem of a device.

Is there a way to fix it?

Although it has been tested in various ways, for now the only thing that has worked is uninstalling applications that apparently do not get along with MIUI 12 . There is no reason why one app or another causes the failures, something that Xiaomi developers are investigating without success for now. To ensure that this problem does not happen to you, we show you the apps that have generated these problems:

  • Airtel
  • Uber
  • Camera

The first of the applications is not used in Spain as it is not an operator available in our country, but nevertheless the Uber app could cause these failures. To solve it, the best thing we can do is uninstall the app and check for ourselves if the fault is here. In other cases, it is the camera app that causes the problem, which we cannot eliminate and we will only have to access the Settings section> Applications> System applications> Camera and delete the data.

Hard Reset as a definitive solution

The only option beyond deleting those applications that has worked correctly is to do a complete hard reset to the mobile. Before doing that, we must know that when we reset MIUI we are going to lose photos, videos and files, so it is convenient to connect the mobile to the computer to try to remove all the files and not lose them.

Then what we will do is this:

  • We turn off the mobile before it restarts, keeping the power button pressed for 10 seconds.
  • Then we press and hold the power button and turn up the volume until we see the Xiaomi logo.
  • Now we move with the volume buttons and we will access with the power button.
  • We enter the “Wipe Data” option.
  • On the next screen we tap on the “Wipe All Data” option.
  • Finally we confirm and wait.

With this, it should be enough for all the apps to be removed, the system remains clean and does not have to live with the random reboots of MIUI 12 that could derive from a fake that has been dragged from MIUI 11.
