Microsoft Announces a Fix for the Problem of Saving Passwords

Microsoft has just solved a problem that had existed for months, since the Windows 10 update 2004 last April. This problem affected when storing passwords in browsers such as Google Chrome or Edge, as well as other tools. The problem was recognized months later and although there were methods to solve it, until now there was no definitive solution.

Microsoft fixes the problem to save passwords in Chrome

This problem, as we have mentioned, arose as a result of the Windows 10 2004 update , which took place during April 2020. In June, a couple of months later, the software giant recognized this problem that affected the saving of passwords in browsers like Google Chrome and Edge, as well as in services like OneDrive and Outlook.

Problem of Saving Passwords

It was in June that they released a statement saying that they were analyzing this problem to see if it really affected many users or was something rare. They discovered that the problem was caused by some Windows 10 Task Scheduler functions. It affected devices that were using Windows 10 2004 Build 19041.173 or later.

Now from Microsoft they have announced that they have found the solution to this problem . However, it will not be present for users until the next update. It is unclear when this will occur, although the next cumulative updates will be on January 12, February 9, and March 9. It will be in one of these updates when they solve the problem.

The software giant previously gave a solution to the problem. This is something that any user can apply on their system simply by following the steps that we are going to mention for it.

Workaround to save Microsoft passwords problem

The alternative solution proposed by Microsoft for those users who have been affected by this problem is to use PowerShell. Therefore, to begin with having to go to Start, we write PowerShell and start it in administrator mode.

When we are here we must execute the command Get-ScheduledTask | foreach {If (([xml] (Export-ScheduledTask -TaskName $ _. TaskName -TaskPath $ _. TaskPath)). GetElementsByTagName (“LogonType”). ‘# text’ -eq “S4U”) {$ _. TaskName} }

Problema contraseña PowerShell

We must take into account the tasks listed by this command and later we go to the Windows Task Scheduler , we look for those tasks and by right-clicking with the mouse on each of them we disable them.

Once we have carried out all these steps, the only thing left is to restart the system . In this way we will achieve that these changes take effect and be able to solve the problem caused by this Windows update last April and that has affected some users when saving passwords in Chrome, Edge, OneDrive and Outlook.

In short, Microsoft has already found the solution to this problem, although it will not be present for users until a future cumulative update that could arrive as soon as next January 12 or have to wait a little longer. However, we have already seen that there is a workaround that we can put into practice while that update arrives.
