Once you have verified these two essential requirements to be able to connect your accessory to HomeKit, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Home app and press add accessory or “+”.
  2. Use the camera on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch to scan the eight-digit HomeKit code or QR code on the accessory or its documentation.
  3. When your accessory appears, tap it. If you are prompted to Add accessory to network, tap Allow.
  4. Give a name to the accessory and assign it to a room, if you don’t have any room configured, don’t worry, here’s how to do it.
  5. Press next and then accept.

Add a room

On the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch you have to perform the following steps to be able to add a room to your Home application and in this way be able to assign your devices to that room.

  1. Tap the Rooms tab, tap the house symbol in the upper left corner, then tap Room Settings.
  2. Press Rooms.
  3. Press Add room.
  4. Give the room a name and hit Save.

If you want to move between different rooms, just click on the Rooms tab at the bottom and then slide your finger to the right or left across the screen.

In case you want to carry out this same process through your Mac, follow the steps below.

  1. In the menu bar, go to Edit> Edit Room.
  2. Click Rooms.
  3. Click Add room.
  4. Give the room a name, click Save, and then click OK.

Again, if you want to move between the different rooms, click on the house symbol in the toolbar and select the room. You can also go to the Rooms tab and swipe left or right with two fingers on the trackpad or Magic Mouse.

Assign accessories to a room

By assigning accessories to a room, you can do things like play and control music throughout the house or ask Siri to play what you want to see and where you want to see it. You can do this in two different ways.

  • On your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, press and hold an accessory and tap Settings> Room and choose a room, then tap “x” to save.
  • On your Mac, double-click an accessory, click Room, choose one, and then click “x” to save.
