MagSafe, the iPhone 12’s Magnetic Charger, Works with More Mobiles

The launch of the new iPhone 12 left us different news but the most outstanding and the richest in ink they have made run are those related to its battery. Apart from being of less capacity than those mounted on the iPhone 11, its charging system is, to say the least, complicated.

And we say complicated because none of the new phones from Cupertino has a charger in the box so, if you want to make use of normal charging or wireless charging, you will have to go through the box.

MagSafe, Works with More Mobiles

If you want to use the new MagSafe magnetic charge that we all know from the famous Mac charging connector until a few years ago, in the new iPhone 12 , you will have to get a special charger that attaches to the magnets on the back of the Apple phone . The charging accessory is already on sale for 45 euros in the Apple store but, surprisingly, it works with many more mobiles. The proof is in the following video where a Pixel 5 answer accessory is loaded.

Compatible with Android mobiles… accidentally?

When this new charger was shown, most people assumed that it would effectively only work on the iPhone when it was announced, but Apple has never said that this was so. Aware of it or not, it turns out that the Z Fold2 or the Google Pixel 5 have a hidden added value that makes them compatible with this magnetic charger. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is another of the models that can use this wireless charging from Apple .

Due to the magnets used in these smartphones, placed in the perfect position to allow the MagSafe charger to connect and stay in place to charge the phone, we can charge the phones with this new accessory from the American firm. Mind you, while in the iPhone 12 the magnets are strong enough to hold the phone, this is not the case in the Z Fold 2.

The MagSafe charging technology in the iPhone 12 follows the normal Qi standard, so it will charge almost any device compatible with this technology, but very few will work with the magnetic connection present in the iPhone 12 and, now, these Android phones. If your mobile does not have these magnetized areas, you can use the Apple MagSafe charger on the table and put your mobile on it, but they will not be “stuck” by the force of the magnets of the devices.
