Magic Mouse Failures: the Most Common and Their Solutions

The Magic Mouse is a product that has fallen in love with many users both for its comfort and for its portability. Many of the problems that the first generation could present were solved in the second generation but they are not perfect equipment. These accessories may suffer failures during their useful life, which we will try to analyze and give you a solution in this article.

Magic Mouse 2 bugs

Check the battery

In the case of the second generation, it did not integrate a battery system to power it, but instead opted for a battery. As in any other rechargeable product, lithium batteries end up wearing down over time. This can cause intermittent disconnections or the battery can drain very quickly. The only solution to this problem is to go to an Apple Store to have the condition of the battery analyzed in order to replace it. You can tell yourself if this is the problem by checking the mouse load in the system preferences. Normally it has an autonomy of one month, but if you notice that in a few days it is discharged, it is a clear sign that the battery is degraded.

Magic Mouse Failures: the Most Common

Ignition problems

It is important to know if the Magic Mouse is turned on to check if the batteries are working properly. In the case of the Magic Mouse 2, when you slide the button that you will find at the bottom, a green LED under the control buttons lights up permanently.

If your Mac doesn’t detect the Magic Mouse

Sometimes even though the battery is correct, the computer is not able to connect to the Magic Mouse. This may be because Bluetooth connectivity is not properly activated. To make sure you simply go to your Mac and enter System Preferences. Then select the section called ‘Bluetooth’ and check that it is activated. You will see an icon appear that will indicate the status of the connection and even the devices that are linked. You must make sure that the Bluetooth icon, characteristic B, always appears in black, indicating that it is active and working.

If the Magic Mouse is still not detected, you can choose to turn off the peripheral for a few seconds or minutes. Once this is done you can turn it on and check if it recognizes it by entering the same Bluetooth configuration window to see if it appears reflected or not.

Another solution that can be proposed to solve this linking problem is to unlink all the accessories that you have linked. In this way it is possible that it is forced to link to the Magic Mouse obligatorily solving all the problems.

Interference

Interference is not the best friend of wireless mice. You should be aware that wireless networks that operate at 2.4 GHz cause interference. That is why you should always keep both the Mac and the mouse away from routers, microwaves or wireless phone bases. Nor should any metal objects be between the Mac and the mouse and they should always be within a 10 meter radius.

It will identify that you are facing an interference if the mouse stops responding intermittently or that it is lagging enough not responding when you press a mouse key.

Check the batteries

One of the problems that the first generation Magic Mouse can have is that it runs out of batteries. By not including a battery, as they did with the second generation, they can drain without you knowing it or simply moving. As the peripheral ages, the fastening system that keeps the batteries in place can deteriorate. When colliding with the mouse or with any object they can move and therefore disconnect from the Mac.

If you are in this situation, it may be advisable to take a rectangular piece of aluminum foil and insert it into the space between the two batteries. In this way, you prevent them from moving from their place as there is no free space between them. You should not worry about the interference that can be created since with the aluminum foil that problem will not exist. Connectivity should return to the moment without fear of it going away when colliding with another element on the table.

Check if it’s on

It seems very obvious, but on certain occasions it may appear that you have the mouse completely turned off and you do not realize it. To make sure it is on, slide the button that you will find on the back and check the LED on the front. In the case of the Magic Mouse 1, it turns green very briefly and turns off.

Magic Mouse movement problems

Most mice work on most flat surfaces, but glass can sometimes play tricks. In these cases you will notice how clearly the pointer does not move as you want. In order to solve it, try a different surface to see if it improves or not. You can also inspect the sensor on the back for any specks of dust that are causing the laser to not pass properly.

If none of this works, head to System Preferences> Mouse . You will find a regulator that will allow you to adjust the speed of movement to your liking. Increase it and make the mouse move again on a flat surface to see if it responds better or not.
